News hot off the press, there is a Thom Yorke / Burial / Four Tet collaboration single coming out this summer. That is something to look forward to

My guess is it will sound a bit like Feral. 8)

Its coming out sooner than the summer too. 21st March and all the pre-order stock has sold out already in all three outlets. Bugger going to have to beg Probe to reserve me a copy now

I agree about the REM album, its like a pastiche of their former glories, its ok but that is all it is, nothing really stands out on it. It just plods and its unmistakably REM but its also nowt special.

Top release and those names are bound to get people buzzing, but I think the forthcoming Four Tet 12" with Caribou is even better.

Have you heard the tracks yet Bicks? Very good and so blindingly obvious which track is Four Tet and which is Mr.Burials.

Not yet, I'm a bit hampered for a week or so as my bedroom has been has been taken over by the missus' Aussie Uncle and Aunt, so can't get near my Desktop (don't really use the laptop for music)

Shamelessly blowing my own trumpet, but thought I'd share:

A review of my band's latest offering (which you can download free at www.casinozone.bandcamp.com, or alternatively just have a quick listen on youtube:

)

GRIEVOUS BODILY HARMISON * demo of the month *

:: Casino Zone ::

31 March 2011 / Demo / 9 Trk CDR

By JA

Last November, Casino Zone supplied a very promising demo that reminded us just how good a northern band could sound. After industriously working away on this album sized collection of songs, it’s fair to say that they’re shaping up to be something of an unmissable proposition. There’s a hefty nine tracks to go at here, but in truth it’s something that should be looked at as being on the scale of say Beat The Radar’s debut. As with the original demo, there’s still the earthy lyrics and dry vocal delivery underpinned by an immaculate undertone of impressive, angular, sharp guitars. Their tracks can be atmospheric (“Margarita”), all are anthemic and when they want to, they can display some hard rock credentials (cue the ATDI standard of “Tesco”). This is a brilliant, shining example of Mancunian rock, delivered with the verve and attitude (and more) of bands in much more fortunate positions – I wish them well on what is sure to be their ascension.

MMMM ½

Not sure about all the Manc references, all of us are from Brum, but oh well.

Graf Orlock's Doombox...gorgeous packaging. The new vocalist is taking a little getting used to, but having all the trilogy records on the CD is a very nice touch too

Not sure if these have been mentioned in this thread or not but anyone heard the Yuck album?

Fantastic album and a breath of fresh air. Has a vibe similar to the likes of Dinosaur Jr, Pixies and Sonic Youth.

Loving the album at the minute. English too which is always good!

Here's a few tracks...

Thanks very much mate, there's 4 of us contributing to it and it's only been live for about 6 months but we're getting decent interest and the site stats are fairly healthy. The challenge is to keep it updated regularly but we do our best!

yeh is a cool blog - just bookmarked it

You based in Brum?

Went to see The Antlers last night with blandy, they were good and their new Album Burst Apart is excellent.

The support band (well one of them, missed the other) were called BRAID, an Artsy Canadian band, who sound a bit like the cocteau twins with Vini Riley on Guitar and Youth producing them. Interesting stuff, their album is called NAtive Speaker and is also worth a listen

Been around for around 25 years, but the Beastie Boys' new album is fantastic. ''Hot Sauce Committee Part Two''.

Make some noise - single: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zyOH2Y3vcc&feature=relmfu

Possibly the greatest marketing/publicity stunt ever conceived to promote it as well:

''Fight for your right: Revisited''

- see how many actors you can name.
