Woody1000
A real shame. I think he has talent, but lacks the heart and drive required to make it as a Premier League player. I can see him kicking around the Championship/League 1 for the rest of his career.
Richard
If only he was half as good as he thinks he is, he might be a decent player
AndyBM
it is a pity when the kids dont make it, but i think that fact that theyre contracted to a premier league club goes to their head too soon hopefully the club can get something in place to unload asap
CI
His heads gone. As an aside, was very unimpressed with Tom Ince. Total amusement arcade of a player with attitude. Avoid.
TrentVilla Posted December 22, 2012 Moderator Share Posted December 22, 2012 I just don't think he is good enough, period. I don't think it is anything to do with his 'head going' he was never good enough.
AndyBM
i do remember a few people raving on about how he was going to be better than gabby when he first broke into the senior team, how wrong they were
Dr_Pangloss
He showed early promise, including a very well taken left footed volley from the edge of the box against Zilina that one season. I think we repeated the same mistake as we did with the Moore's, the first sign of promise in the first team and we give him and lucrative and lengthy contract. It just sets the wrong incentives. Young players should be given a small basic wage but with generous bonuses for producing in both the first team and reserve team. That way you can incentivise progression rather than making them think they have already made it.
8pints
With a bit more of a meaner streak to his play, think he'd be a much better player.

tomaspg
what dr pangloss said. it just seems like nathan does what so many other youth players do, they become reasonable then hit a glass ceiling. I think whe will do well in the championship
PauloBarnesi
Scored against Huddersfield after coming on again.; 5 in 19 appearances now
TrentVilla Posted December 28, 2012 Moderator Share Posted December 28, 2012 Scored against Huddersfield after coming on again.; 5 in 19 appearances now So a 1 in 4 scoring record in the championship, that just confirms he isn't good enough for the PL to me. AndyBM
how much is he worth? sorry, i should ask, how much will we get as them numbers are never close together
TrentVilla Posted December 28, 2012 Moderator Share Posted December 28, 2012 Worth? I'd say between £1m and £1.5m, people might think that is too much but that is the sort of money WBA are getting from Leicester for Wood. What would we get for him? Well we never seem to do well selling players, I'd take a guess we'd get less than £1m perhaps in the region of £750k. That said I'm not sure what his contract situation is and that is obviously a factor. Someone would have to want to buy him first though and there has never been any suggestion anyone wants to do that.
dudevillaisnice
His contract is up 2014 (think most if not all of these "kids" contracts are up at the same time) one of many I wouldn't bother renewing.
AndyBM
its a pity that we as a club have to let contracts run out before we can unload players we no longer want, other clubs dont seem to have this issue, we must really have the wrong players at this cub that nobody else wants
TrentVilla Posted December 28, 2012 Moderator Share Posted December 28, 2012 Or...... we just aren't very good at selling players. Some clubs, Spurs in particular seem to be extremely good at selling players.
AndyBM
not ever being in football management, i cant see how difficult it can be, surely its just the case of telling the agent we no longer want that player and want X amount for him? which then the agent will phone around clubs and add his amount on as well?
