Can't win a header, never seems to even leave the ground... Terrible in one on ones.... and like people have said, not that young anymore, 3rd season of prem football coming up....

Headed duel

Baker: 64%

Vlaar: 63%

Clark: 61%

Tackle

Vlaar: 71%

Clark: 68%

Baker: 60%

Pass accuracy

Vlaar: 82%

Clark: 81%

Baker: 78%

Errors (lead to goal)

Vlaar: 2 (1)

Clark: 4 (2)

Baker: 5 (1)

IMO Clark is getting a lot of stick for one extra error that lead to a goal.

Where is the stat for being out of position?  and what about the stat for being a bad reader of the game?   Stats are for baseball...

4th choice is what Clark deserves judging him on his performance from last season, I hope he has learnt enough to atleast progress this season and start showing that he can make it.

I don't disagree, based on the performances of last season, that he is not first or second choice. Vlaar was our best central defender.

This season I expect Vlaar to be paired with Okore. This is the traditional paired with playmaking centre-back combination. Rugged + flair like Vidic and Ferdinand, Terry and Ivanovic, tried and tested successful centre-back forumla.

Baker is a traditional centre-back so is a swap for Vlaar. Clark is a swap for Okore.

When we play 2 CBs, this would be our back line, except for games against physical teams like Stoke and West Ham, where Baker would step in for Okore.

Now, if we are going to play 3 centre-backs, who gets the third spot, Baker or Clark? It depends on how much possession we are expected to have in the game. The more possession we have, the more we want Clark and Okore with Vlaar, the more defensive we expect to be, the more we want Vlaar and Baker together.

Vlaar showed great technique with his goals, and had the highest pass success rate, so how is he the rugged uncultured one?

Lambert told him he wasn't a playmaking centre-back. There is a quote like that from a couple months after we signed him.

He's from Netherlands, so he will have much better technique than the average rugged centre-back from anywhere else, but he is still in that mould. His nickname is 'concrete Ron.'

Ok so Clark is the cultured one and Vlaar is the old fashioned one. Except Vlaar played more passes, more accurately, more key passes and scored two crackers. But Clark is the cultured one.

That defending a whole new level of shit

I wish he'd stop doing these step overs on the turn when he's in possession as well we all know what happened in the man city game....

Yeah and he did the exact same thing for Ireland vs Austria in a qualifier few weeks after that mistake and cost Ireland a goal as well.  Its ok for players to make mistakes but not learning from your mistakes is pathetic for a professional.

The only position Ive ever thought he looked decent in was left back

He's a liability, vlaar isnt too much better either but clark is definitely the worst. The big smile after he signed the new contract must have been just the pure disbelief that he got one after last season. Hopefully okore is not injury prone because if were relying on vlaar/clark partnership again we'l be around the same position again.
