Think this is the rule though if the player throws it before having it under control? Vaguely remember a SA fielder doing this in the 90s or early 2000s …

They were showing it recently. It was a South African maybe Gibbs, might have been a World Cup final too

Stokes and Bairstow have got to get a three figure partnership here as England have a long tail.

It was a long shot with Duckett still out there but I don't see anyway through with the final 2 specialist batters in. One mistake or one moment of brilliance and it's all over.  It's hard to see 200 runs passing before one of those things happens.

The frustrating thing is we’ve shown now in both tests that we aren’t completely outmatched by Australia. But this tail is surely too long to scrape over the line unless one of Stokes / Bairstow (ideally both) produces something absolutely magical.

If nothing else that is absolutely terrible terrible sportsmanship to even claim the wicket.

Dumb by Bairstow but this is not innthd spirit of the game. Disgusting test.

Forgetting the rules of the game.  Can a player only be given out if the wicket it appealed by the opposing team?

There is an expression. "it's just not cricket"

For me you don't go appealing for a wicket not won on sporting merit.

It is not cheating but it is diabolical sportsmanship. Would have been nice if the English (Irish) co commentator, Eoin Morgan, had the bollocks to call them out on it.

The Australian commentator just said it's like yesterday's game. The rules have been applied.

Maybe, but it's not a question of rules it's a question of sportsman like conduct.

Bloody convicts.

When you think about football, often described as the most scummy of sports, ruined by money.  You have that incident with us an Leeds where we were gifted a goal back.  Paolo Di Canio catching the ball.

Cricket of all sports is supposed to be the gentlemans game. I would expect the Australians to approach the umpire and explain that it was an error.  Instead no such thing, they're jumping up and cheering and congratulating each other.
