TrentVilla Posted June 11, 2010 Moderator Share Posted June 11, 2010 Mbark Boussoufa Have you actually seen him play? I haven't so I can't comment. Steven Defour Not a chance would we get him or get him for £20 Miguel Veloso Not convinced he is as good as Milner Jamie O'Hara Seriously? As good or better than Milner? Please. Nuri Sahin Not seen enough of him to judge but not sure we'd get him João Moutinho Definately too optimistic Stephen Ireland Based on form of 2 years ago maybe but why if its a sure thing do City want Milner??? Van Der Vaart We've already tried and failed Sorry but as I think this list shows its really not that simple.
Rob182
I think Ireland would be a good (and realistic) replacement. But he doesn't have the work rate of Milner - which has almost acted like a 13th player for Villa (after the Holte being the 12th ) O'Hara has looked decent at times but I don't think he's anywhere near the quality of Milner. Mr_Dogg
Remember only in this country Thats the stumbling block mate Yup. From your list above MON will only probably consider O'Hara and Ireland, neither who are better than Milner especially not O'Hara. So now you see its not such a great plan to lose him. See my post 2 above  I would argue that Ireland is on a par, and O'Hara has the potential and is as good as Milner, he's as good as Milner was it the same age. O'Hara is one year younger than Milner.

Milner had scored goals at the age of 16/17 against top premier league clubs.

You are saying the Milner of season 2008/2009 was the same level as O'Hara is now? I really don't think so, he's miles off.

Risso
I think that Ireland is every bit as good as Milner, and has the advantage of having that extra spark of creativity that Milner lacks.

So why arent we talking about just a straight swap then? If there equal surely we dont need 20million as well as Ireland?

PieFacE Posted June 11, 2010 VT Supporter Share Posted June 11, 2010 Irelands work rate and drive is no where near as good as Milners. But Ireland has a bit more creative spark IMO. But... I think we need Milner more then we need Ireland.

Would you be happy with a straight swap Risso? No, because Man City obviously value James Milner much more highly than they do Ireland. The fact they've got ridiculous amounts of money to spend doesn't mean that their valuation of players is correct. They got rid of Dunne for a pittance, and spunked £24m on Lescott, does that sound like a good deal to you? If they make the same mistake two years running by letting Ireland go cheap and spending way over the odds on Milner, more fool them.

The thought of a Petrov/ Ireland central pair scares the shit out of me... that is one half paced midfield right there!
