Anyone use Uber?

I've been steadfastly avoiding them preferring to put my money into the hands of my local taxi firm instead of a global corporation who seem to treat drivers with disdain.

But the other night my Cousin ordered an Uber in King's Heath to take us home and one arrived in about 3 minutes.  I know for a fact I would have been waiting for 20 minutes to half an hour for my local firm, starting to wonder if that's the best way to go.

Plus no dicking around with cash etc.

i seldom use it here. the cab firms around me all have uber-style apps where you can track where they are and is just linked to your bank card so no messing about with cash. price wise it's comparable too.

uber is very good though abroad, particularly if you don't speak the lingo. i remember getting a cab in rome pre-uber where the guy whacked on a load of extras knowing we couldn't speak italian to argue with him. uber means you don't have that issue anymore

Suspect arrested now. Not the one suggested by the tarot, surprisingly. A 28yo arrested in Pennsylvania. Post grad student in criminal studies, bizarrely.

The affidavit for probable cause was revealed today on this guy. He's really, really, really **** guilty.

DNA matching him to an obscene degree was found at the murder scene, one of the surviving housemates saw the suspect during the event and he matches their description, his phone is off during the period the murders happen, he has spent time in the direct vicinity of the murder house in the months prior including one time where he was actually stopped by a copper for a seatbelt violation late on a Sunday night, and his car is tracked seemingly driving to and from the house either side of the murder. Oh and he left the sheath for the knife behind so they know what kind of knife he used.

Considering he's apparently a PhD student in criminology, studied under a renowned academic in the serial killer field, and even did research on the emotional experience of killers, he's not done that much to cover his tracks. In fact he's left tracks going directly to the crime, left a big signature on his 'work' and the only he seems to have done to cover it up is mysteriously turn his phone off when he did it and back on afterwards, and hide the weapon. But left the sheath behind.

His lawyer might not be putting much effort into this one.

I saw this post the other day and found it really interesting and refreshing.

You see these people on facebook and YT with their channel’s devoted to them playing big money slots. I wondered about the economics of it because as we all know they pay out less than they take so the more you play the more you lose.

The other thing is they very rarely show their losses, just the big wins. And then the comments people add about how lucky they are etc were a worry.

I thought it was both interesting and refreshing that this youtuber shared her numbers for 2022

8-BA28640-7-E3-C-4359-A342-FF1-A426-E20-

I was surprised just how much money she made from her channel. Losing nearly 1/3 of a million but making double that in ads.

Hmmm, I watch a lot of slot videos, too many, and Lady Luck is one that I have watched in the past, her figures are interesting to say the least. she has in the past been less than honest but I believe those figures. I follow a UK slot and Vegas channel and every 6 months or so he posts about his revenue from YT and its not to be sniffed at, particularly with the relatively low numbers when compared to the US full time slot channels.

I have a friend who does online casino full time. 95k over 2 years from only 2 accounts, big loses can happen, but the value is there if you take all the offers too!

Yeah, a bunch of us in here were doing it a few years back. When the pandemic came it seemed like vast majority of offers dried up and made it not worth doing. I made over £20k doing it on 1 account.

These streamers are just gambling though, mug betting as it was known. Everytime you hit the button you lose 5% of your stake.

Yeah I was doing it too, probably at the same time, still do a bit of matched betting, but much harder than say 5 years ago, it was as good as free money then. Mostly value betting now.

I just read that the boss of bet365 made £213m last year, plus a share of the companies £100m dividend. To go with £250m last year and similar numbers for the previous years too. No wonder they don’t need to do good offers and promotions any more.

Yeah this has been discussed many a time on my betting forum. Denise Coates, family owns Stoke FC. She even took a 35 million pay cut this year, company made 2.4 Billion 2% up on last year. Make some serious money these betting companies.

If your YouTube channel is big enough, it doesn't matter if you make a profit gambling. Its the same in the automotive YT space. Someone like Mat Armstrong (who I think @Chindie has mentioned before) buys wrecked cars - like Lambos or Porsches. He'll try and fix it himself and spend a fortune on parts etc. The costs involved are probably more than buying a standard used one from a dealer. But, the value is in the 10 or 15 videos he makes doing it and the revenue generated from the millions of views. The cost spent on fixing the car is secondary. Content is king.

Even that involves an element of skill. Sitting on a stool, clicking play and making >$600k a year is just insanely easy money.

Not sure if this is the right thread but does anyone "suffer" with nostalgia?

Yes. Far too much, and it doesn't do me any good at all.

I long for happier times in days gone by. I made the mistake of thinking it would always be that way and its not.

Got offered 4 months free of Netflix on Sky. Gotta say I've been wasting my OLED tv. The picture quality is the best I have watched on Netflix, shows Sky UHD up no end. Even a much better picture on my lads tv in his room. I'm impressed.

Far much TV now though, we have most of Sky, Paramount (free offer), Prime (cheap as chips), an now Netflix, wouldn't mind but I only really watch sport.

Looks like the Bolsonaro people are Trumping in Brasilia

Quote

Radical Bolsonarists invade National Congress, in Brasilia

Military personnel tried to contain participants in an anti-democratic act with pepper spray and stun bombs. The monument's windows were shattered.

Military police tried to contain Bolsonaristas using pepper spray, however, they invaded the containment area that surrounded the National Congress. Images from the site show that a National Force vehicle fell into the water mirror of the monument.

Police officers also used stun bombs in an attempt to contain participants in the anti-democratic act. Until the last update of this publication, the Military Police had not yet commented on the invasion.

Im looking at going to a gig in Birmingham next Tuesday at the institute. I usually get the train up but as I’m going on my own I’m going to drive. Does anyone know of any good located car parks, especially for a quick exit after the gig? I live Stourbridge so will be coming in the Hagley Road side for what that’s worth. Cheers.

I find the Allison Street Car Park is good for gigs at the institute

Trinity Street car park on Heath mill lane is perfect for the institute. Right round the corner and the right side of birmingham to get out of the city into the ring road without going through the centre
