watched the fighter, liked it alot you can instantly see why its getting the awards nods, bale is brilliant, the boxing isnt bad, the brotherly love is good, the sisters are ugly, my only slight reservation was not knowing his story too well they did IMO make him seem like an average boxer who managed to land a flurry and win fights, he won fight of the year 3 times

also if anything during the credits it looks like bale might have played down dickie!

So is The Fighter "based on a true story", then?

I know nothing about boxing, and I've never seen any of the famous boxing movies such as Raging Bull or the Rocky films. I think the only one I've seen is "The Harder They Fall" (because I'm a Bogart fan).

yeah its a true story, mainly based on a book but MW says he befriended the 2 brothers and that they are very happy with it, the story around wards comeback seems to be a bit off (according to wiki) and the family stuff without reading the book i dont know but its not particualry nice stuff so id be surprised if it was way off

what i did notice from the film was how much of a nicer picture they painted of wards ex and her new partner, not sure if that was reality of a huge compliment

Watched a few recently.

Winters Bone 7/10

Probably not for everyone, a bit slow at times but a good story about a girl searching for her drug dealing father in a rough town who suddenly disappeared. In the mean time she struggles to look after her ill mother and her two younger siblings with little income coming into their home.

Lost Highway ?/10

 Really don't know what I watched, a very confusing film which a lot of the time looked like some porno. Needs a rewatch like most David Lynch films...

Harry Brown 6/10

Decent watch, hilariously unrealistic though. Michael Caine pretty much carries the film.

Films i have seen over the last few weeks...

The fighter, yes would recommend

Little fcukers, no not even funny.

127hrs, easy to follow ok.

Burried, Again easy to follow shite but ending.

The green hornet, nope boaring.

True grit, Pointless want my 2 hrs back.

The only one of those I really fancy is True Grit. Will treat it as another filming of the book, rather than a remake of the John Wayne version.
Was proof that kids and cowboys dont work, Was a cheap and abrupt ending like they run out of ideas or money...

It's how the book ends.

I think I'm going to see Tangled on Wednesday with the girlfriend.

Also want to catch 127 hours while it's still showing, but might not be able to. Think I'll wait for The King's Speech to come out on DVD though, especially as I'll have my big new TV soon!

Saw Black Swan last night. I thought it was incredible, and it was properly terrifying. I wouldn't class it as a horror, but it's an example to all horror films as to how to build tension. I don't think I've ever felt tension like it at the cinema and I found it far more "scary" than any horror I've seen in recent times.

That's the third film I've seen in the past couple of weeks (King's Speech and 127 hours were the others", and whilst the others were good, Black Swan stands out as easily the best of those.

Quite a few films out that I want to see still. True Grit is a must see for me, I want to see the new Eastwood film (i forget the name) and I quite fancy Buitiful with Javier Bardem, although I'm struggling to find a cinema that's showing it. If anyone knows of one I wouldn't mind you letting me know.

Finally got around to seeing Where The Wild Things Are (does the American title add an "At" to the end? :P). It wasn't quite as good as I imagined it would be. Though I think if I'd been in the 8 to 10 year old range it would have been magical :)
