Villatillidie95
Was watching “when English football ruled Europe” part 1 on itv yday, you will never see scenes like it in the Saudi pro league. A lot of this footage is from near enough 50 years ago, in 50 years time they will just not have the same relevance as now!
OutByEaster? Posted July 26, 2023 Moderator Share Posted July 26, 2023 In fairness to Henderson, all this talk of money probably prevents anyone having to deal with coming to terms with the fact that his legs have gone and he can't hack it in this league any more. 1

What I hate about all these though is the way media will cover him as a typical red Scouse darling and of course they will have no problem with the fact he turned a blind eye on what he was strongly supporting, becos of the insane money that he is now getting. That could happen now, that’s the point, if it’s not frittered away he already has enough money surely to set up the next 3-4 generations, okay they can’t live like rockstars but the money he’s earned could purchase property, pay for educations, cover bills etc - how much money does someone need? What will he do tomorrow that he couldn’t do yesterday?

You don’t think Jordan Henderson could arrange to travel somewhere by private jet? If I could afford it I could arrange that, in fact I’d be shocked if he hasn’t travelled by private jet for whatever summer break he had.

Oh yeah, sorry, forgot how necessary an accessory that was these days. It’s not as if the worlds burning as well as folks struggling to make ends meet. It’s getting me riled up more than usual to be honest, on Sunday whilst I was doing the shopping I overheard an old couple looking at cooking / olive oils etc and how the cost had gone up so much and what they could take off their shopping list to accommodate buying it. If the world was a bus I’d be repeatedly tapping the stop button right about now.

Genie
I was watching a programme last night about Britains expensive houses. There was a 5 bedroom apartment for sale for £25m. Even rich millionaire footballers will be looking up the scale of houses, cars, sports teams that they can’t afford wishing they had more money. There’s many things more Henderson could do or buy if his salary goes from £7m a year to £35m a year.

I work with high net worth individuals primarily based in the Middle East. Whilst I don't directly deal with many footballers, I do get to see how some of them have managed their wealth. It boggles the mind how they can burn through extreme amounts of cash without even realising. Most footballers don't come from money, nor are many of them financially savvy. When they start earning millions it may not surprise you that they can burn through it pretty quickly. Houses, flash cars, expensive items, holidays, are just the tip of the iceberg. You've got family pressure - not just buying a nice house for the parents, but suddenly 'uncle Jack' wants to buy that bar he's always wanted in Sunderland and pisses away a million quid. Everyone in the family that has a loan or mortgage expects it to be paid off and cousin Billy has some gambling debts and their gonna bust his knees. Then comes the bad investment advice, the desire to buy a tiger for the entourage and don't forget the HMRC. Hardly a sob story, but does add a little context. I have no idea if Jordan Henderson has managed his money well, but I do know that earning 75 million over a career doesn't mean he has 75 million in the bank. As @OutByEaster? said, his legs have gone so this is very much a last payday, but one that keeps him and his family in the lifestyle that they've grown accustomed to for decades of retirement and beyond. This is not a comment on the ethics of being paid by the KSA government, - that's a separate point to the one I'm trying to add context to. But rather than being able to buy a yacht or jet, it's just some of the financial factors that he would have weighed up in his mind when having such a vast amount of tax free money on the table. Is he a massive hypocrite for taking money from KSA? Of course, but they've obviously discovered what his price is. Kuwabatake Sanjuro
We can see now that if apartheid South Africa had the same amount of oil that Saudi has then there would have been no successful boycotts. A depressing thought.
