Who takes Digne? He’s also a similar profile player to Moreno . Emery wants different options to build a balanced squad rather than like for like.

I think him going to Marseille as part of potential deal to get Guendouzi is possible. Marseille got loads of expensive players in their squad so should be no issue on wages and he's got more chance of being in French squad starting for them than just being a squad player for us.

In an ideal world our summer would look something like this based on players we've been linked with:

In

Guendouzi

Nico Williams (the Bilbao one)

Foyth

Tierney

Goncalves

Pau Torres

Out

Coutinho

Digne

Young (move him to a coaching role)

Traore

Nakamba

Sanson

Chambers

Davis

I don't think those ins are out of our league except maybe Torres and possibly Williams, so if we can't get them an equivalent ball playing CB and a pacey winger. As for outs, will be difficult to shift all those unless we're prepared to take hits on what we paid or use them in part exchange for our ins. Bailey, Buendia, Ramsey and McGinn can all stay as vital squad players but will be in and out the team. We can probably afford to sell at least one of them though if we bring those other players in.

It will be an expensive summer but we are well overdue one given we haven't spent much last two summer windows.

I recon they’ll sign Nuno Tavares permanently on a cheap deal with sell on fees like they did with Guendouzi. I don’t think Digne would suit they’re play style at all.

I think Guendouzi would provide good competition for Luiz/Kamara while also being a good option in LM too. Looking at his game time at Marseille he is very flexible and has played DM/CM/AM in different games. I feel he might push Luiz a lot.

I think that RCB is a key one for us too. We need that option for the 3 at the back but a player who is comfortable on the ball and passing who can move into midfield to form part of the 2 3 5 in attack

Then we know the need for a forward to partner Watkins up top. A player who can lead the line if needed but is an inside forward used to cutting in from right of a front 3.

I think those signings are the key ones and we'll move on the fringe players like Traore, Sanson etc.

We could bring in a younger CB potentially and move Chambers on. I could see another attacking player come in but would expect it if we moved a Bailey/Coutinho/Buendia on and was sold.

I'd rather sign Onnana from Everton if they go down.

He plays in tight midfield 3 that continually gets overrun,m. He goes missing in a lot of games I’ve watched him in.

Easily one of the best midfielders in the world in his age range.

So Like I just mentioned I thought I would make a post of what I would look to do this summer as it stands right now and assuming there are willing buyers for our players in the summer at decent prices.

I'll start with the goalkeeper and back four

GK - We need a new back up, I hate having Olsen as backup I don't trust him as far as I could throw him which isn't very far. I have no recommendations, I am personally of the belief only GK coaches know who the best up and coming GK's are as it is so specialised.

RB - Jeremie Frimpong comes from a British background being a Man City academy product who went to Celtic then Leverkusen good stats, and young at 22. 2 Years left on his deal in the summer.

or     Tino Liveramento - if Southampton go down, I would pick Liveramento over Frimpong but if they stay in the PL the price would be crazy. I wanted him when he was leaving Chelsea and I still want him now.

LB - Borna Sosa, I have been on about him for a few years now and he is still only 25. Again very proven in Germany, gets lots of assists, gets forward well and lots of crosses. 2 Years left in the summer on his Stuttgart contract.
CB - Pau Torres the one everyone expects! He has a year left on his deal and is about as proven an entity as it gets for a player who hasn't played in our league

To leave -

Steer, Olsen, Cash, Mings, Digne, Hause

Some are easy to explain.....

Steer out of contract
Olsen don't trust him at all
Hause no longer needed
Digne hasn't panned out and we can't have players on 6 figures a week on the bench.

Now the not so easy.....

Cash is being kept out the team by a 38 year old and seemingly isn't fancied by the new manager. He is a decent right back but he isn't a starter for a club that wants to finish top 8 every year.
Mings is the most difficult one as he is currently the second best centre back we have. He is however 30 next month and out of contract in a year when we reach the summer. Better to let go of him now for a good fee.

I would imagine IF there were willing buyers for all those players I could see 60-70m coming in for them.

Time to update my picks now it is a month later and some things have changed.

So Mings has signed a new deal, Cash seems to be fancied by Emery once again.

Now it would be Chambers to be sold and not Mings
Young not to get a new deal, KKH back out on loan

and the money coming in down to maybe 20-25m

I'll move to the forwards next, this is where there will be serious disagreement with me.

AM/SS - Kamada proven in Germany on a free in the summer he would be a round peg in a round hole and would be great for marketing in Japan, something our club could do with.

That's it. No one else.

Out - Davis, Coutinho, Traore.

Davis simply isn't needed
Coutinho hasn't worked out and never will
Traore is a victim of the fact that you don't need 4 players for one spot in the team.

I doubt we would get much in for these players given the latter two are probably on a combined 200k a week I think we would be lucky to see 20m for the three.

Now I know what will be said, 'err what about a striker?'

Well Watkins is going nowhere and emery likes a hardworking forward.
Duran has just been brought and will need SOME minutes
Archer also needs SOME minutes.

If we brought a striker in we are basically throwing Archer in the bin saying I hope we get 10-15m for you from a Championship/Lower half PL team without ever giving him a chance here AND it helps us spend money elsewhere.

I feel it is a part of the team where we can spend zero money considering Kamada is on a free and bring in a little cash, whilst also freeing up wages.

This remains the same but we just don't Sign Kamada as he is going elsewhere.

Traore to stay because of that.

Lastly the midfield

We don't need ANY players for DCM! Amazing how that has turned around. We have Booby, Dougie, Timmy and Donkey.

Where we do need players is for this weird position of left and right midfield.

Now in Emery's system the player is required to be defensively sound in the wide midfield position out of possession and in possession move in front of the defensive midfielders. This is not a typical wide midfielder at all. Ball carrying is what we could do with him which is why Ramsey looks decent in the team, as that is what he does.

So the question is how many do we need? Ramsey and McGinn are perfectly fine for this and you could argue that Buendia could do the role as well, maybe.

I would be open to selling McGinn as I have been for the last couple of seasons if a good offer came in but lets assume it doesn't and we keep both. This would mean I want two 'wide' midfielders.

LM Ryan Sessegnon I think Spurs MIGHT let him go, he hasn't fulfilled his potential there and I think he meets the requirements for the Emery role.
RM Otavio is perfect for this role under Emery's system, I would prefer him to be a bit younger, he turned 28 yesterday apparently but he fits the role so well I think it is a signing we should make.

Out - Sanson, Nakamba, Philogene.

I don't really think much needs to be said about why those three need to go, its pretty obvious. You may argue to give JPB a contract extension and back on loan for a higher fee and if we did that I think we wouldn't see more than a few million coming in for the other two combined.

I would imagine buying two two would cost circa 50-60m

This remains the same but now I would sell Dendonker and Bring in Onana if Everton go down

Onana is good but he doesnt bring control to a midfield. I would prefer Guendouzi who is a bit more cultured on the ball and experienced. The one thing i think we can see now is that calmness on the ball is valued by Emery.

Fair point on what Emery wants

i know we will likely have a couple of big money transfers this summer, but i do wonder if we will see a few cheaper deals.

Moreno looks an absolute steal for 12m, and i wonder with Emery's knowledge of the Spanish league, or other leagues, whether he has a few players in mind who although cheaper, would still be quality players for us.

I agree, it would seem likely Emery will shop in France (Guendouzi) and most likely from La Liga.

PL signings are way too expensive. Wan-Bissaka, no thanks.

I think he may go france.  Can see a french club coming in for him.

I like tierny think he is very good just injury prone.

And count me in for the johnson from forest he looks like a exceptional talent

I can see a fair few suitors for him, depending on wages.
