Do our academy teams seem to be getting beaten more often than not at the moment?  I don’t follow that closely but every time I see a score we seem to be on the wrong end of a pasting.

I don't follow it that much but I thought we weren't results focused in the leagues, we're using patch work quilt teams and playing with the ages meaning we often line up quite young compared to the opposition

U18s had started to improve before today, beating Spurs and Norwich away and getting good draws against West Ham and Leicester and very unlucky to lose four minutes into injury time against Arsenal as well. That improvement coincided with a few changes, Katsukunya, and Duerden being promoted from the U16s, and Aaron O'Reilly also returning, which seemed to help the defence, and also Patterson moving into midfield, and Kadan Young becoming more of a regular starter.

They've been unlucky this season with injuries, four or five of the best players at that level have missed most of the season, and up until recently had only one specialist centreback available. Also have to bear in mind that the best U18 players are fast tracked to the U23s, so it's always going to be hard for the U18s to do well in the league as they lose the best players to the U23s, but that doesn't matter as it's better for the indvidial players development to play up a level if they're good enough.

U23s lose a lot of games, probably partly because the best players are either out on loan, or involved with the first team.

As has been said before our academy is a lot more focused on individual development rather than results, last night against Stoke for example we used it as a game to give game time to players returning from injury and to give some U23 experience to some of the younger players, possibly a few of the others being released in the summer as well, so would have been a chance for them to impress scouts, which is beneficial for us as it's better for the academy if the players we release find new clubs and go on to have good careers.

Back on players we might be releasing, as above Tristan Abldeen-Goodridge is currently on trial with Newcastle and played for them against Middlesbrough on Friday, so seems like he might be one of the players we're letting go in the summer.

He hasn't actually done too bad this season, four goals and three assists in seventeen appearanes for the U23s and another goal and two assists in four appearances in the EFL Trophy against first team opposition, I think his general performances have improved as well.

But we've got a lot of talented forwards of a similar age, and others coming through a little younger, so can see why he might be one we have to let go.

Both now working as coaches at our satelite academy in Gloucester, Zak Brown also playing for Alvechurch who our academy also has a connection with as their new training ground is also used by the FDC Academy who are one of our partners, which small heath fans have been moaning about as apparently it's near to their training ground...

U15s lost 4-1 today in the Floodlit Cup Semi-Final v Palace, a shame, but they did well to get this far, and Palace have a very good academy at the moment, they won the Floodlit Cup themselves a couple of years back, and will probably win it again this year.

U14s beat Reading 6-1 in a Quarter-Final at the weekend, which I'm pretty sure was the Albert Phelan Cup, so one of the younger age group teams still might be in with a chance of winning one of the major academy tournaments this season.

I haven't seen it so don't know if he had much to do, but he came on for the last fifteen minutes in England's 3 0 against Mexico yesterday, video should start at that moment.

Anyone noticed since Gerrard come in we've being getting absolutely battered at u23 and u18 level. Are we playing the same tactics as the first team?

we have been semi poor all season, probably largely in part due to the fact a fair few of are youth from last year are out on loan (Archer, Bidace, Hayden, A.Ramsey, Barry, Raikhy).

Players like Young, Revan(s) were also on loan until recently, Chuka Jr is also on loan i think.

Chuka Jr is spending a lot of time with the senior team, as well as Chrisene now he is fit.

Its probably more that our "new" younger batch now need to develop and kick on, we just need to give them some time.

Just looked it up, England drew 1-1 with Portual and then beat them on penalties, as well as his penalty save in normal time he also saved two penalties in the penalty shoot-shoot.

Yep it has been noticed. More to do with lack of players of a certain age i reckon. All the good 18 and 19 year olds are with the first team or on loan apart from Lindley and Brad Young currently. Difficult to compete against teams on average 2 years older than us with a defence that tends to be either 16 or 17 or sometimes 18.

But yes. We are losing far more often since Gerrard came in.
