Temperature would be the main one.

Would you add jam and cream to a burger?

Different things are different things.

Sandwiches can be served hot (bacon or sausage being classic examples and some that definitely shouldn't have butter on).

I wouldn't add jam or cream to a burger but I wouldn't add them to a sandwich either. However, I'm sure there are burgers out there with jam and cream in them.

A burger is a type of sandwich (an item of food consisting of slices of bread with a filling between them), in the same way a Tuna melt or cheese toasties is a type of sandwich.

Quote

Traditionally scones with added fruit are served with butter only; plain scones with butter and jam or cream and jam

I'm happy to confirm that this is normal. I'd never heard of anyone not buttering a scone until today and am pleased to find that I haven't gone mental. This thread messes with your mind.

So we're agreed then?

Not all sandwiches are the same.

Same site, but wait, what?

Sigh.

I guess I wouldn’t do it but I’m not against the idea. There’s a biscuit that’s basically that except, you know, biscuits instead of scones.

Does raise a question about where people would stand on a fray bentos pizza sandwich though.

For the record.

I butter:

  • Ham
  • Cheese
  • Chicken
  • Cold Beef
  • Chip butties
  • Cold Pork
  • Scones (obviously)
  • Toast and anything I toast (shouldn't need saying but in this thread who knows)

I do not butter:

  • Bacon
  • Sausage
  • Burgers
  • Pizza

Thank you for your time.

Yes, we're agreed that a burger is a type of sandwich.

The next bit is madness, it's like saying no pizza should have cheese on it.

Tuna mayo? Jam?

I can understand most other sandwiches but those are the 2 I find weird

Can remember going to a mate from schools house for tea once for hot dogs and his didn't just butter the buns she layered it on thick, I was nearly sick
