New Lee Child "Jack Reacher" book is out now, called "61 Hours"

Finished this in 4 nights. Highly recommended...........less violence than usual for Reacher but a cracking story

I've not read any Jack Reacher yet....

im making my way through Dennis Lehane's Kenzie and Gennaro detective series that have spawned the great films Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone - they are well worth a read

but my favourite crime series novels are the Inspector Salvo Montalbano books written by Andrea Camilleri

originally in Italian and translated into English they are fantastic but theres a lot of them to get through however neither installment is very long...you could easily finish them in a couple of days if your a speedy reader

Have you read Filth Chindie?

No I haven't, the Acid House is my first Welsh book. I was considering getting Filth actually but changed my mind in favour of the Acid House and Maribou Stork Nightmares.

If I enjoy them both I'll definitely be picking it up.

Maribou Stork Nightmares is his best piece IMO

Don't bother with Ecstacy - not much cop and neither is Porno.

Currently reading Country Of The Blind by Christopher Brookmyre - loved all his other books so hopefully this'll be just as good.

Looks promising, it has a hell of a lot of study guides dedicated to it also, which is always a good sign if you want your brain scrambled!
Really? **** me. When that came out no school/college would have touched it with a bargepole. Shows how times have changed.

Don't read any guides, just take some drugs and let it flow over you.

On second thoughts, don't bother with the drugs, you won't need them.

As a WWII buff you'll love it, provided you take it in the same sort of spirit as "Inglourious Basterds".

Nothing wrong with a bit of mental WWII stories now and again, just ordered on amazon for £4.99. Bargain. Going to get Slaughterhouse 5 and The Castle while I'm at it.
The Castle?

Or Castle Keep?

The Castle, by Kafka.
Ah, OK.

It's just that you mentioned "mental WWII stories", and Castle Keep meets that description.

Have you seen the film Mooney? If so, anygood?

No, I haven't. I was wondering the same thing myself.

Finally read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas recently. Absolutely fantastic book. Ordered The Rum Diary yesterday.

Talking of Kafka, The Metamorphosis is brilliant. I have a book of his short stories and shall read more over summer.

  • 3 weeks later...

I'm having a crisis.

It won't surprise anybody to know that my house is FULL of books. Literally, thousands of them. Every room except the bathroom has bookshelves. I even built shelves in the loo - I counted the other day, and there are 200 books in there alone.

I have a bookshelf and a cupboard next to my bedside, with stuff I'm currently reading, or intend to start soon. As I keep buying books, this is now rather overflowing. So I counted them, and there were another 100 right there. This is the "short" list. Jeezus. If I read one a month - and don't buy any more - it'll take me the best part of ten years to get through just that lot. I am 56.

I think I have a problem. :(
