I reckon over the years I have lost about 100k on gambling. Mainly spread betting financial markets. It haunts me.

Im such a **** up.

I appreciate It's easy for me to say and i know i might be stating the obvious, but don't beat yourself up over it.

You can't do anything about whats happened in the past and it will do you no good whatsoever dwelling on it.

Yeh but very small amounts. Almost like feed the habit. I still trade too but again small amounts and I actually make a bit of money. I have blown a load on crypto tho.

I learnt about trading in that time I lost loads of money. If understood and could handle money management back then I’d be fine.  It’s when I’m at my lowest I just lose control.

Edit - Thanks mate but I only have myself to blame. Need to get over it and stop making same mistakes.  A lot of it relates to alcohol.

Chin up mate! Life is constant lessons, but addiction can lead us to repeating the same mistakes over and over unfortunately. But it can be beat 👍

Simply won't 'pull the trigger' on buying a replacement

I finally got my dad to buy a new Iphone. Hes been rocking the 1st generation SE since release. I think it's about 8 years. He was contemplating replacing the battery for a second time the word removed :D

The problem is, even for more tech savvy people and the tools in the phones themselves, setting up a new phone is a massive ball ache.

I have been mulling over getting a new phone for a while but the faff of getting it set up puts me off.

I quite enjoy that job.

I do to an extent until you’re logging in to a million apps and websites and you don’t have the passwords.

You can save all that info on your Google account. Setting up a phone is easy.

True, I have most of mine backed up in iCloud but there’s always a few that are missing or out of date.

Anyway, don’t enjoy it too much or you might get addicted (back on topic, phew).

There was a story over the weekend that Bruno Mars owes MGM about $50m of gambling debts. Absolutely crazy amount of money. They effectively own him now as he has a never ending residency at the hotel/casino.

As of yesterday, I am officially 1 year alcohol free. While not always easy, sobriety has brought peace, happiness, health, and stability to my life.

Incredible achievement, congratulations. I can't imagine there's very many in the world that can say they've achieved that, so really well done.

Well done mate keep it up . I fell off the wagon just after the 8 month mark but I’m two months again now .

I have stumbled many times - it’s part of the journey. Congratulations on having 10 sober months! That is a long time and something to be proud of

It's a daily fight, win today and you have won the war.

Well done all, i have been of alcohol for 6 months ( health issues) and I'm beginning to realise my life's better of without it.

We're conditioned from an early age to accept alcohol as a benefit, a positive,  it's clearly not but you need to stop to  realise it..

I’ve never been a massive drinker or had a problem with alcohol but at the start of this year I decided to cut it right down as part of a plan to shed some pounds.

I have learned that I really don’t miss it at all. I still have a drink here and there but have realised I can easily live without it. I really don’t need those beers with the football, or when playing xbox with mates. I’m at an age where I don’t go out with mates that often now so that probably makes things easier.

Addiction thread is probably not the best thread for these thoughts, apologies.

Might be a very personal question, so apologies if it is, but for those of you that have given up booze or drugs or any other addiction for any reason, what was the the point where you went "nah, this is enough now, this needs to stop" - obviously don't answer if it's deeply personal and you don't feel like sharing.

When it wasn't fun anymore and felt more like a second job I couldn't get out of. That was 12,289 days ago.

Firstly, congratulations on 12,289 days ago. Secondly, thanks for sharing that, not heard that take before but it makes sense.
