What did we do before Google hey. Assane Diousse sounds like a good prospect but I'd be reluctant to sign another African due to the ACON.

hmmm Before google existed... Read weekly "Shoot" and "Match" magazines late 80's and early 90's for articles on promising players around the world :D

If we do have a bit of money for the new boss then I would guess it would be French players that he would know most about.

It is vital new signings hit the ground running and those sort of players may be out of our budget if they are already playing in our current league or want wages that we would not be willing to pay (Townsend/Austin/Cole). I think he said some weeks ago that he would not be signing more French players but our scouting network and he in particular should know which of these players could make a difference to us so we should use his knowledge primarily because it is he who will stand or fall on these signings. Surely someone is available who can show some passion and awareness of what he needs to do both with and without the ball on the other side of La Manche?

Nick Powell anyone? He's s  Villa fan, he only has 6 months left on his contract so should be cheap. He had a touch of class about him at Crewe, lost his way at UTD. He just needs to (apparently) sort out his work ethic/attitude and get over his injuries. I'd say he is worth a punt though and If we do go down a handy player to have next year in the championship or whatever they are calling it this season.

How would he improve our team?? Never heard about him being a villa fan... He's from Crewe why would he be??

He has been suggested before and is a Villa fan. He had looked a very bright prospect but made the mistake of joining Manchester United. A bit concerned that Mikeyp102 says "He just needs to (apparently) sort out his work ethic/attitude and get over his injuries". But it might be worth giving him an opportunity to prove himself with us in the longer term.

Remember the days when the glory-hunters used to support Manchester United?

Well, United midfielder Nick Powell has reversed the trend by revealing that he is a secret Aston Villa fan.

Powell, a former team-mate of Villa midfielder Ashley Westwood at Crewe, lifted the lid on his surprise allegiances using social media.

Using his Instagram account, Powell posted a picture of him as a blond-haired youngster wearing the shirt Villa won the 1996 League Cup in.

I just think for the little he would cost he is worth a punt.

I made no such claim

Linked with 3 keepers: Colin Coosemans (KV Mechelen) Daniel Bentley (Southend) and David Button (Brentford)

Aston Villa are having a torrid time in the Premier League this term and it looks like they will be facing up to relegation to the Championship this term.

In the winter Remi Garde, who took over from Tim Sherwood earlier in the season, will be keen to bring in his own players and one position seems to be on the cards for replacing.

Brad Guzan has not been in top form this season and it is being reported today that Villa will be looking to bring in a new stopper.

The Mirror is reporting that three stoppers are on the agenda for Villa.

Two are known to English audiences. Southend United stopper Daniel Bentley has been fantastic in the lower leagues and is out of contract in the summer at Roots Hall. He is said to be one of the 'keepers on their shortlist.

David Button is also a player on the list. The former Tottenham Hotspur youngster has impressed in the Championship for Brentford

Meanwhile there is Belgian stopper Colin Coosemans. The Belgian Under-21 stopper has excelled at Waasland-Beveren recently and joined KV Mechelen in the summer. However he has struggled to get in front of Belgian international Jean-Francois Gillet in between the sticks.

Aston Villa it seems have plenty of options in the keeping department.

Replacing Guzan certainly is a priority. We could get someone at least as good, and maybe better, for lower wages, which is the calculation we need to make for the Championship. Button would probably do the trick.

Bentley for a low price as out of contract in summer sounds good as well!! Very good keeper.
