  1. Saka just can't help himself can he the diving/cheating bastard. He could have stayed on his feet and scored yet chose to initiate contact.
  2. We've also scored 15 more goals than we did in the whole of last season with 6 games still to go. It suggests that perhaps we are a little more attacking leaving us a little more vulnerable defensively, or given the defensive injuries we have had that we have suffered in that regard whereas our forward players have in the main stayed relatively fit. The above doesn't excuse individual or collective errors within games but it possibly goes some way to explaining the bigger picture. In an ideal world I'd love us to score tons of goals and rarely concede but given the option of being tight defensively and winning games 1-0 or being a bit more adventurous/open and seeing 3/4/5/6 goals a game and coming out on top more often than not I'll take the latter every day of the week.
  3. Last two posts by @briny_earand @Sulberto21 have been excellent. Some of us need to give our heads a wobble and put where we are into the perspective of who are competing against, where we were just 18 months ago and how far we have come in the last 5 years. It is remarkable what we are doing at present and what we are on the verge of potentially achieving this season. Do we have issues? of course we do but I feel they are blown out of all proportion. As mentioned in the previous post apparently we have an issue with throwing away two nil leads yet it has only happened twice this season and only one of those resulted in a loss. Also some seem to think we have a poor defensive record yet we have the joint 7th best defensive record in the league all whilst being without Mings for the whole season, Torres for 2 months, Moreno for 3 months, our best defensive midfielder since January and also decent spells missing Konsa, Digne, Cash and Carlos. On the flip side though and what rarely gets mentioned is that we are the 4th highest scorers in the division. Regardless of what happens from here on in this season will have already exceeded my expectations and should have exceeded any supporters realistic ambitions. With a fully fit squad I'd have hoped to be competing for a top 6-7 finish (and Europa league place) coupled with a decent cup run. With the horrific luck with injuries we have had though we should probably be lingering in mid table.
  4. Well said mate. I said to someone at the game yesterday if you'd have said to me at the start of the season that Mings and Buendia would miss the whole season, Ramsey over half of it, Kamara a third of it, Moreno 3 months, Torres the best part of 2 months and we'd also be without Digne, Tielemans, Konsa, Carlos, Cash all for a decent number of games then I'd have expected at this stage we'd be lingering around mid table. Just because the mainstream media choose to ignore it we as fans should not turn a blind eye to the fact we have had horrendous luck with injuries that renders our current position remarkable, more so when you consider we have also found our way into the Conference League quarter finals.
  5. Sky are still referencing how far outside the Champions league places Man Utd are absolute madness.
  6. I have only seen it at the game looking from the Hotle but it seemed a harsh booking in the context of a game where the referee let quite a lot go and wasn't overly keen to get his card out. Regardless of whether it was deserved or not though these things happen in the heat of battle especially when we were desperate to regain possession and try to right the wrongs of throwing away a winning position. Trying to put a positive slant on it he'll be fresh for the away leg in Lille and our run in.
  7. Gutted for him and us. Fit and firing he would be one of the first 3 or 4 names on the team sheet for me. He is our best ball carrier and we have really missed him down that left hand side. We have also seen that Moreno looks nothing like the same player without Ramsey to combine with. Hopefully he'll be back as good as ever come the start of next season.
  8. United are not catching us, I'd put my house on it. They are as good as 12 points behind with goal difference. I'd even go as far to say they won't take 12 points in their remaining games. Remarkable that it is the first week in April and we are pretty much nailed on for top 5. Let's finish the season in style and get 4th though.
  9. He only needs to get through the Brentford game without getting booked and that is then the 32 game cut off for 10 yellows resulting in a 2 game suspension. After Saturday he'd then have to get to 15 yellow cards before end of the season before receiving a suspension.
  10. I think a loss for Utd tonight at Chelsea pretty much sees their slim hopes of catching us or Tottenham disappear. Fortunately Chelsea still have plenty to play for/incentive tonight as they are only 5 points off 7th with 3 games in hand and if they beat Utd they'd only be 5 points off them/6th with a game in hand.
  11. Lots of positives from that first half and it is frustrating that we are losing, which is something I didn't think I'd be writing. Second half we just need to stay in the game for as long as we can and who knows what could happen. Not one to be defeatist but I think I'd take a loss by no more than two goals though and move on to Brentford.
  12. Martinez, Pau, Mings, Kamara, McGinn, Ramsey, Bailey, Watkins (that is 8 players) would all be part of our best 11 for a lot of us and none of them start tonight either through injury, illness, suspension or being rested. I'd say a result tonight, even a draw, would be up there with our best results in a long time given who we have out.
  13. I hadn't realised how well Preston are doing. Tough game for Sha today, although given how crap they are I guess every game is tough
  14. Just seen in the news that despite us having experienced the wettest 18 months since records began the UK could face water shortages if this summer is hot and dry, which whilst not wanting to state the obvious is a possibility in summer. The reasons for this are that we are not storing our water properly with no new major reservoirs having been built in the past 30 years, rivers have been engineered to move water quickly so it runs into towns and cities (causing floods) and many wetlands have been drained then farmed or built on. All of this means that all the rainwater we get is not being stored properly but causing floods followed by water shortages in summer.
  15. I haven't seen any mention of it on here, and I doubt it will be mentioned in the build up to the game by the media, but we do as we did the last time we played them and beat City on Wednesday then we'll be just 2 points behind them. I am not saying I expect a win on Wednesday, far from it, but I remember in the lead up to the City/Arsenal games in the space of 4 days and the amount of posts saying I'd take a point from those two games and we took 6. I am sure the manager is still very much focused on looking up rather than what some of us are doing and quaking in his boots at what is behind us and hopefully that attitude may see us spring another surprise (to some) result or two.
  16. The VAR decision in the Newcastle West Ham game to ask the referee to review his on field decision, which was no penalty, was up there with some of the worst officiating seen this season. It was never a penalty. Gordon at no time had control of/possession of the ball and if anything needed to be given (it didn't) him stepping in front of Phillips was a foul on Phillips.
  17. Pleased about this. Gives them a little extra incentive to push for a win but with that also comes a little extra pressure. Despite all our injuries/suspensions (I know they have some) on paper we are the better team and on a very good run with only one defeat in our last 6 in all comps (inc 4 wins). I think you add in home advantage, and hopefully a rocking VP and a second half under the lights, then, for me, it all adds up to a win for us by at least 2 goals.
  18. What a blessing it was for those of us born at a time that allowed us to see both Cowans and McGrath play for our club. Not just the most naturally gifted players to play for us but also for me two of the best players I have seen for any club. Sid for me just edges being the greatest player I have seen play for us though. He could stick the ball on a 10p piece from 80 yards, read runs of those he played with to the point you'd think he must be telepathic, had an eye for goal but as well as having the silky skills he had no problem sticking his foot in and he'd always give his all. He had it all. I hope him and his family don't suffer too much. It is certainly not the end this great man deserves.
  19. @delboy54 hope you have a long, healthy and happy retirement mate. Hopefully helped along by watching Villa win a thing or 2
  20. I'd imagine this time yesterday we all thought we'd have to win today to maintain the same gap to Tottenham. As it is though we've only drew but have gained a point on them. There are going to many more twists and turns but that is another game played and we are another point better off on our main rival for 4th. Onto the next.
