  1. Ollie runs but doesn't make runs. Emi and Phil have nobody to pick out on the rare occasion they get the ball in the final third, they just get swamped by 3-4 players while trying to keep the ball long enough for a Villa shirt to show for it.
  2. If you look at Ings' numbers, he actually puts in as much or more work than Ollie! He's not as strong aerially or likely to push defenders around, though. https://fbref.com/en/players/aed3a70f/scout/365_euro/Ollie-Watkins-Scouting-Report https://fbref.com/en/players/07802f7f/scout/365_euro/Danny-Ings-Scouting-Report
  3. Bert's tendency to take first-time shots would be enormously useful at the moment.
  4. Ings has never really been a lone striker and the manager is never going to take any chances with the likes of Archer at the moment. He seems to want a target man now but we shipped out the only player we had with that sort of profile, so we're left with Ollie.
  5. Cometh the hour, cometh the Fred... (I know Slippy will just play a CB there or Young on both sides simultaneously, but still.)
  6. Now that's what I call a real tribulation!
  7. Coutinho yet again coming deeper than both 8s in our own half.
  8. Well, he did say we'd have to drop the pretty football.
  9. Sanson was also in or around the 99th percentile for pressures in Europe's top 5 leagues for 3+ seasons, while our side has apparently forgotten how to run.
  10. Thanks for the point, Steve, now you can leave on a positive.
  11. If we were signing a player that had been one of the highest rated defenders in France for two seasons and helped a club like Strasbourg compete for a European spot, we'd be thrilled. Instead, we've bombed him out AND sent our youth RB out on loan. Strategy Steve at work.
  12. He's a true DM that can cover CB. Would assume a Marv replacement.
  13. Would absolutely not let any senior pros out the door at this stage.
  14. Permanent League Two loanee, apparently.
  15. With a striker that runs but doesn't make runs and a midfield that almost always has to stay behind the play to cover the fullbacks (and/or is just plain static), small tricky 10s will never be effective.
  16. At this point, I'd be ok with it tbqh, as long as it weren't wage-structure-breaking insane (and coming from France he probably wasn't on big money, relatively speaking). Not likely to find a better ball-playing defender at this stage without shelling out a load of cash anyway. Came through the City academy and had a loan at Sunderland, so familiar with England as well. Rather overpay him than drop 15M on a Bednarek or similar.
  17. Waiting for the inevitable insane wage + signing fee deal from someone desperate.
  18. Except what if it's actually Purslow?
