  1. Please stop using this thread for general FFP discussion. Use the general ffp thread Multiple Posts have been moved to there, but any more in the wrong thread and warnings will be given. Thanks.
  2. I hate to break this to you, but it’s the voters in Israel that prop up their governments, and up until very recently the unwavering support of US administrations. The UK couldn’t prop up the Isle of Man. I mean I’m the same as you in avoiding knowingly buying anything made or grown in Israel as my equally futile and pointless gesture, that mostly assuages what’s left of my conscience. Israel’s government gives not two **** what our opposition parties, or government say or do. Their population is furious about how the hostages haven’t been rescued, but generally are supportive of the actions being taken “against Hamas” (deliberate inverted commas) according to polls.
  3. FFP doesn’t exist. It isn’t a thing. As per the club’s snarky reply to an FAB question. The Prem has PSR rules, UEFA has financial sustainability rules. The Prem’s rules are probably about to be changed (again) and adjusted for the current world or climate we operate in, the UEFA rules are (IMO) more about levelling up the playing field against the English model of letting states and Oligarchs own clubs and “dope” them financially, about cementing the current “big” clubs in their lucrative places. The UEFA rules to an extent are protectionist of “names”, the Prem rules are flawed but well intended.
  4. I’m far from a Steve Bruce fan, but that’s unfair in the extreme. He tried hard, tried his best, including working when he had bereavements. He just wasn’t up to the job, unfortunately. I never thought he would be and was miffed we appointed him, but he worked extremely hard (and was well paid for that).

    Liverpool

He’s probably right. Man City win far more trophies then Liverpool, so there’s bound to be more meaning and feeling for the scousers. If someone like Villa, Newcastle, Everton… wins something, anything, it’ll mean more to the fans than City winning their Nth trophy in 5 years.

It’s the days I feel sorry for. People fighting over “wimmins” day, men’s day, whatever, but who asked the days how they feel about having their name taken in some woke cause? Days should be respected for what they are. Nothing more, nothing less, just simple circadian cycles trying to make the best of things in an ever more fractured cultural world.
  10. It closed down about a month ago. It’s not permanent, but it’s not not permanent either. Costs, rent, energy…unfortunately.
  11. We give and have given significant military aid to Ukraine. The stuff we sell/sold to Israel and elsewhere not only couldn’t be “rerouted” to Ukraine, but even if it could, it’d be of little or no use to them. I get the sentiment, but the reality is not as you say it is. Ukraine needs howitzer shells, ammunition, fighter jets, air defence missiles and guns, Tanks, intel and etc. They’re burning through that stuff faster than it’s being provided, now. Particularly since the US has stopped providing anything. But that stuff, by and large, that’s not what we sold (under legally binding contracts) to other places, like Israel. And the value of the aid to Ukraine exceeds the cumulative 5 year period value you quoted for licenses of sales to Israel. There’s obviously a thread for Israel, if people want to talk about the horror story there, in Gaza, but for Ukraine, yes, western nations are far from “all in” to different degrees and as a consequence Ukraine is struggling and losing ground.
  12. I’d love to see evidence of that. My understanding is the opposite. The uk is not a big supplier of things that go bang to Israel. It’s true that we make a part (rear fuselage) of the F-35 that the US sells/sold them, but in terms of provision of tanks, missiles, artillery, ammunition and training and support for military defence/ops my understanding is that we do next to nothing for Israel and a lot for Ukraine, comparatively.
  13. Oh. OK. Wasn't trying to do anything other than put across my take. But cool. Have a good one, Panto.
  14. Zackly. One person severely disturbed = X. 2000 (say) people more minorly disturbed= ? Where do you draw the line? Is it mathematical or is it not like that? Maths says at some point you push the person off and crack on. But that doesn't seem right, yet at some level it is the judgement, it's (in maths terms) not so different to "do you shoot the suicide bomber vest person to save the hostages". I am of course evil for even pondering such matters.
  15. Again, philosophically...are they? I mean the person on the bridge and the " cry for help". Are they actually suicidal, are they attention seeking (at the other end of the extreme). It's kind of a thing where I feel " I want this human to be safe and well" and then I also think, "there's all these other humans some of whom are getting proper problems because that one is doing what they're doing up there" Like you say, deal with the immediate issue and sort the rest later...except no-one does. And so it repeats.
  16. 2 years later Ukraine has western missile defences. 2 years later they have the benefit of NATO intel. 2 years later Russia is desperate to announce gains. 2 years later Russia is no longer “yeah, we got this” super confident. 2 years later Russia is throwing lives and equipment and aircraft at trying to gain ground. So no, it’s not comparable to a sort of surprise attack intended to grab control of Ukraine in a few days. SitRep, this is 2+ years into an ill conceived invasion, not the opening days of a war.
  17. Here’s a talking point. I was musing a few years ago, while sat in a huge stationary traffic jam on the motorway. The jam, it turned out was because someone was threatening to jump off a bridge. I was on my way to a Fall gig and had some leeway, but I wondered what’s the calculation? Motorway closed both directions. Thousands of people stuck. Is one of them gonna beat their wife/ plunge into depression/ insert terrible outcome here/ whatever? Because of the actions of a disturbed person? At what point is the greater good/ least harm caused by just either grabbing the “jumper” or they jump? It’s a philosophical question, not a point of view.
