  1. It's not just the lack of European football (which is important in itself) You have things like wages Spurs could offer , location (players like London more then Brum for some reason), managers international reputation ( which Smith has none). Many things are stacked against us.
  2. I wouldn't be surprised. It's a big step down from Juventus to midtable team.
  3. 3 8's? That's a new idea, didn't see it on VT yet. How would that look?
  4. Still doesn't solve our DM issue that people believe is our biggest hole
  5. This summer, Chelsea sold academy graduates Tammy Abraham (Roma, £35m), Fiyako Tomori (AC Milan, £25m), Marc Guehi ( Crystal Palace, £25m) and Valentino Livramento ( Southampton, £5m).They also have buyback clauses in the contracts of several of those players. This is the potential that well run academy gives you. Hopefully one day we will come somewhere close to it. Fringe players sold for good bucks.
  6. You can get excellent value for £17m if you spend it wisely. Bertrand Traore and Emi Martinez cost about £17m for example. Traore is definitely a better player than Elghazi, I don't have to explain what Emi brings. Actually half of our starting eleven cost less or around £17m (Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Targett, Luiz, Mcginn). Back in real life, I don't see anybody actually paying £17m for him in this market, it's all just rumours.
  7. There's that as well. But that goes without saying
  8. How he treats players? What do you mean? he gives them contracts, pays them good money and expects them to honour the contract. he never talks to the media circus. how he treats fans? Like paying customers, No better or worse than most other football directors.
  9. Well, Wes had 5 minutes. He will see maybe 5,10 minutes here and there but not much. That was what I meant.
  10. This is really interesting. I was wondering how is it possible that Bielsas teams always have running metrics of the charts. It can't be down to the players as he always replicates it at all clubs he manages. Is it just down to his training methods? Surely he is around for long enough now for other teams and coaches to be able to replicate the methods he is using. Obviously it's just pure speculation on my part, but it always puzzled me. https://twitter.com/peterrutzler/status/1395635374236569602?s=21
  11. Just another way of generating income from your fans. BTW, villa are on Socios bandwagon as well now, joined this month.
  12. If you look at it from selfish Villa's perspective only, It would weakened them this season, but £150m for 28 year old would make them potentially stronger longer term. And we need to look longer term if we really want to compete with team like Spurs. Outside of Villaverse I think it's good for footbal in general.
  13. Good to see a club not being held to ransom by player and City demands. We should all applaud Spurs for that.
  14. It looks like it won't affect academy players anyway. Which is good. Keep them on the books or loaned out untill they are 22 and then either sell or keep in the first team.
  15. Did they? I didn't see anything to confirm that, must have missed it. Do you have a source link describing the changes?
  16. Well, that's not difficult. Wesley is going out on loan and Davis is injured till October. Cameron is almost 20 now, not much point keeping him in U23s anymore. Either loan him out to League 1/2 or integrate with the senior squad (although he won't see much game time in this case)
  17. Loan to Turkey or Belgium i would say. Return to Belgium could do him a lot of good.
  18. Apparently he just joined Scotlands national team coaching setup.
  19. There has been a lot of disappointment on this thread that our youngsters go to League 2 and National League teams, and not to championship or League 1 for example. Looks like National League and League 2 is the right level for them (at the moment).
  20. For me to asses progress I would look at things like points tally, goal difference, possession stats (shows how well we control games) and xG. league position alone can sometimes be a bit misleading. Ie historically 55 points is normally enough for 8-9th place.
  21. I think you are over complicating it. Anything more than 55 points is progress. Get more then 55 points and the league position will take care of itself. You can’t control what other teams do, only your point tally.
  22. I don’t give a damn where Arsenal finish. if they finish 5th and we finish 6th I will be over the moon. if we finish 11th and above them, not so much.
  23. How come? Why is our season defined by finishing above or below Arsenal?
  24. We would need to get about £12m for him this summer to break even. Nobody in their right mind will pay that much. Probably the best option for all parties involved is to loan him to Belgium, Turkey or similar place. He will get to play and rebuild his confidence and we will benefit from his value hopefully increasing again. We could keep him around, but how much game time is he gonna get?
  25. He stylistically reminds me of Carles Gil. Clever movement, great eye for the pass but lacks pace and gets easily outmuscled and dispossessed when on the ball. Main difference is that Buendia is feisty and puts a shift in defensively. Early days for him, he will need more overlapping runs from cash to get the best of him when he cuts in.
