  1. We finish fourth and Man U/Spurs fifth so it’s all good!!
  2. Yes but ours are nothing compared with Liverpool and Spurs, I heard that on the BBC and straight from the mouth of the actual manager of Liverpool, so it must be true!!!
  3. Someone hold Mr Withe’s pint for him and young Nigel’s. UTV !!!!!
  4. You’d assume that’s exactly why Heck has been brought in
  5. Almost certainly as part of the Scouse cartel that was operating then. Thankfully that has now largely gone and hopefully no further long term bombs are ticking away.
  6. Depends on the length of their contracts too. Has Shay Given left yet??
  7. I’d say you’re right but there’s definitely a plsyer in there and Unai is the man to develop him, undoubtedly. He’ll bring out his potential and we’ll have a bargain on out hands in the not too distant future. Hopefully he can help us to the top 4 and to win the Ueropa Conference this season!!! UTV!!!!
  8. Now that gives me a warm excited feeling on a Monday morning!! Or any morning for that matter!! UTV!!!
  9. Go out and come back again please Sid!!
  10. In this context it shouldn’t be forgotten, that in 1981 and in 1982 two of our probsbly biggest if not definitely biggest stars of all time, ie. Andy Gray through moving on and Brian Little through injury were no longer playing for us but things turned out quite well in the end, a bit nervy at times perhaps but we got there in the end. UTV!!!
  11. It’s a classic chicken and egg situation. We need a good team to sell the project but we need structure to exploit the product to increase the income, ok we have rich and savy owners to help euth the infrastructure but we’re not allowed to spend on the product, football, to justify the infrastructure so we have to think outside the box to some extent and I think that’s what Chris Heck has been brought in for to see the club and the football business in general through different eyes. When our owners started they needed an experienced English football executive to steady what was a rudderless ship and run us like a proper premier league football club and do bsck then Christian Purslow was just right for the job but time has passed and the club has moved on at a fairly rapid pace, certainly on the pitch, thanks to the appointment of Unai and now the football business needs have changed in regards to firstly what we need but also what is possible. I’m an older fan and largely due to no longer living in the area I don’t get to games very often anymore so my needs/desires have also changed but ultimately I want what’s best for The Villa and to see us win lots of games and silverware as I’m sure most of you do too. UTV!!! P. S. It was my 61st birthday yesterday so a late birthday present from our wonderful team this evening would be very welcome! Please if it’s not too much to ask? I’m not gready, just a five or six goal difference victory with no injury problems and if there are any higher powered bodies listening then if you could spare a hammering for Spurs and Man U too…….?
  12. I think it shows that the money isn’t in the traditional revenue streams, such as bums on seats, shirt sales etc and we have to be more clever than that eith sponsorships and TV revenue etc. Which I’m sure is one of the reasons there has been a shift in senior, none football, oersonel. We have to move with the times and meet fire with fire, outside of the box thinking which we may not understand fully or be comfortable with. Ultimately winning football matches is still important though and will remain our goal for lots of reasons both emotionally and financially UTV!!!
  13. Well named then At merely 6’7” lucky we didn’t trip over him!
  14. The apparent Arsenal legend who said when leaving Aston Villa, that we were, “the only club he cried over leaving” the greatest club ever does tend to have that effect on anyone that comes under it’s spell. UTV!!!!
  15. Is A La Merse, the Spanish version of Paul Merson?
  16. Do you recall him going toe to toe with a well known face at the time a Millwall fan, who was said to be the hardest man in football, off the pitch. I believe this coming together was at Millwall I think in their end, I reckon when Ron said, “do you want to bet against us?” He probably had Pete in mind! I hope he had a peaceful and happy last years of his life and can RIP knowing his team are at last heading in the right direction RIP. HEITS UTV!!!!! I never met him and knew him only by reputation but they don’t make ‘em like him anymore. Terrace View on the Holte my arse!!!!!
  17. I remember when trying to get into the away end vs Ipswich for the so called title decider,(it wasn’t!)in 1981 there was a huge crush, which was mainly Villa fans as the Holte was already full and none of us wanted to miss this one, by this point the old bill had already got plenty of horses out and one of them stood on a lads foot, not Pete’s I hasten to ad, however it must of really hurt as the lad let out a blood curdling yell and I remember that must have been the Horses revenge for the time one of his pals had met Pete! I’m not sure how old Pete was? At least he saw us win the league and the European cup. Would be good to put a trophy in the cabinet for him this season. Those were the days UTV!!!
  18. Legendary in his time RIP Pete did the horse live this long? HEITS!!!
  19. It really was a fantastic game highs and lows it was so Villa, it had it all, probably great for neutrals too!so even the noses could enjoy it mate!!
  20. Villa is already a Spanish name. Panic over nothing, a classic VT thread!! Calm down, calm down as our former manager and CEO would say.
  21. I’d agree I’m sure he’d be involved with both attacking and defending set pieces. They’re the opposite sides of the same coin in effect, surely?
