  1. Not all Manchester United supporter are rocket polishers. And there’s nothing wrong with like that club. But there is a rocket polisher effect there with that club. You’re pleasantly surprised when you meet a sensible, respectful Man Utd fan. Not all people with degrees voted Remain. Not all people with GCSE’s voted Leave. When you meet someone who is very intelligent, and didn’t go to college for one reason or another, it’s a pleasant surprise to hear they regret Brexit. @sidcow and Mrs Sidcow are like the nice Man Utd fans who you’ve no problem having a pint with.
  2. Asking for zero hyperbolic overreactions is a bit much.
  3. He’s wearing a suit to remind everyone this is not business as usual.
  4. Crucial thing for me is keeping a clean sheet. I think we’ll score, so a clean sheet means a win. Otherwise, 1-1 draw. Hopefully Dougie and Boubs will protect the back four and we’ll keep it tidy.
  5. Spot on. Bailey can be a bit one dimensional. He tries so often to cut it back into his left, it becomes predictable. Traore is a nutcase who could produce a bit of magic.
  6. I know the average man on the street is fine. Of course he is. It's the collective group that's been problematic. The UK has had three prime ministers in the last 6 months. Theresa May couldn't pass a withdrawal agreement to save her life, and Boris was comfortably elected on a pro-Brexit strategy. Threatening to break international agreements damages trust in a country even after the government of the day leaves office, and that whole Lord Frost nonsense happened only a few months ago. There's a legitimate hesitation to trust HMG as well as the sour grapes due to the insults. Long term I hope Britain comes back into the fold. Short term, I think there's a shift needed. Actually getting the average Daily Mail reader to view the EU as something much closer to the UN than to the Third Reich would be a good start.
  7. I see your point, but I didn't miss the Council - that's where unanimity is required and thus where the likes of Victor Orban or Mary-Lou McDonald (assuming she represents Ireland after the next election here) can kick up a fuss/veto for any reason they see fit. Or where farmers can put pressure on their national leaders. Yes, it also requires a simple majority of the Parliament. As it should. -- I'm a fairly sensible person and obviously as a Villa fan reasonably friendly to the UK. So I'd like to see ye back in the gang. But after the suggestion from Priti Pathetic that the UK could "starve" Ireland, after Boris publicly wondered why Leo Varadkar didn't have a name like Murphy, after all the nonsense about unilaterally reneging on the NI protocol, and all the other crap hardline Brexiteers said (comparisons to the Third Reich and so on), I don't see any rush in welcoming HMG back into the fold.
  8. The exports are not that big a deal from the EU perspective. Definitely not enough to garner unanimous support. As for the grown ups bit, it’s not just the grown ups (the Commission/Brussels/the “unelected bureaucrats”) who get to decide. The UK have put themselves in a position where they also need Victor Orban and regional Belgian farmers to approve their application. And we can probably add Sinn Féin to the mix next year too. It’s not straight forward after 10+ years of insults.
  9. It’s not that long ago that Boris Johnson compared Merkel to the Nazis. Not sure you’d be let back in lads. It requires unanimous consent. I don’t see any massive benefits given the existing trade deal — you’ve largely accepted our laws already — but you could cause headaches if allowed back in. British membership would thus rely on goodwill, a gesture of friendship, and you’ve done a poor job making friends of late.
  10. Was it Luton that beat us 3-0 or 3-1 that year? I remember one counter attack when Richards just stopped running back. As in he gave up and jogged back. Stealing a living.
  11. The club are advertising 25% of memberships for next season. Posters here have previously slated this membership scheme, but it seems necessary to me to get tickets for the odd game (I live in Ireland so season ticket isn’t a realistic option). What are people’s experiences? Good, bad? Would I need two memberships to bring my wife along to 3-4 games a season?
  12. What Britain needs is No Deal. That’ll teach the EU to not make its own energy policy.
  13. The EU is a happy family because the Union doesn’t tell its members how to conduct foreign policy. A bit like NATO doesn’t tell countries what to do about inflation. It’s only in Britain where people think every argument means the EU will get involved.
  14. The man said he hoped the similarities continue!
  15. Madness. He’s a brilliant player but we’d accept half that. Rightly so.
  16. 1. Miss the start of the second half because the queue for a pint. 2. Slightly fear your death waiting on the platform in Witton. 3. Never see a FA Cup Fourth Round match in your lifetime. 4. Get reprimanded by a mod on VT for quoting too much/not enough of an article.
  17. I agree the lesson from WWII is inevitable war should be fought early. But the lesson from WWI is, for me at least, that you don’t go all-in and escalate things. It’s almost as if these things are complicated!
  18. My takeaway from WWI is that countries need to be careful avoiding all out wars from regional conflicts.
  19. Watch any pass he makes. Outrageous how much time the receiving player has.
