    Drop Hourihane in to dmf and let mcginn and BB play like e2e midfielders. Ok they haven’t got the creativity of Grealish but they have a lot of energy between them.

    Basing it on international caps is completely flawed though. Serbia are a top team. Just getting in to that squad is an achievement and means you’re a decent player. Yet Peru who lets be honest are pretty weak are higher than them in FIFA rankings. We could sign a Peruvian with a few caps no problem. It’s ridiculous.

    If a player with over a 100 appearances in the top flight of arguably one of the strongest leagues in Europe this century is not deemed skullfull enough for a work permit to play in the second tier of English football due to number of international caps then the whole system is bollocks. Unless ive misunderstood the whole point of work permits?

    He managed to get the best out of him while he was at another club!!! That’s how good a manager he is. Smith can’t even get the best out of him while is managing him! Maybe we can ask Allerdyce to help us out.

    Probably Bouma. Warnock had one good season. just thinking about our fullbacks and they really are crucial to the way Smith wants us to play for them to overlap. In addition we also need energetic midfields to cover the gaps left when full backs bomb on. I wouldn’t be suprised to see a new RB and LB in jan. I think he will be backed the way Bruce was in his first transfer window. But he will also probably be using the summer budget if we don’t go up.

    Spot on. It’s bizarre he wouldn’t address the balance of the defence even though he was completely backed in the transfer market. Then again this is the guy that sold Cahill and bought Zat Knight. saying all that he has still been our best manager for years! keeping on topic I know Taylor isn’t very good and doesn’t have many fans. I still think we look a better team with him at LB and Hutton at RB.

    nah it must be true. What if the new guy got injured? Or if we sell him in Jan surely every would know there’s no injury. Its a sad injury for the guy but yes the club will most likely spin it as lost his place to injury.

    Nyland has been so bad we all think this guy with be an instant improvement. But in reality I don’t think we’ve had a decent keeper that’s hit the ground running since Friedal! Could take him a few games to settle.

    I think he needs to drop down a league after this season if wants to continue playing. He looks done at this level. His football brain and experience is keeping him going. Physically he is struggling and we look a lot weaker with him in the team.

    Resting mcginn will mean Whelan will have to continue to play and hinder the team so it’s unlikely to happen.

    He was probably asked and made to feel like the club really want him rather then being told he had to back because we had no defenders. Can only go on past interviews so will never know the truth but it does seem he wasn’t treated too well by Bruce.

    It’s becoming like something out of the MON book of leftbacks. Hasnt got a decent right back so puts a class centre back there. Left back gets injured so buys a new right back and left back. New left back is crap so puts centre half back at right back and new right back at left back. Centre half that plays right back leaves so buys a new right back and a new centre half. Plays new centre half at right back. You can’t make this s**t up. Edit: that was all under MON when we were successful!

    His pace was fundamental to him getting past his man. Without that he isn’t the same player in my opinion. Don’t care who the manager is. Anyway I don’t think he has even been that bad. He is still a key player for us.

    Losing the yard of pace that made him the player he was would be a issue with any manager. Smith is not the reason he can’t skip past players anymore!

    They will work hard yes. I don’t think every opponent will give there all the way Preston did though. It’s not sustainable. As I said I wouldn’t be surprised if they go on to lose their next 2.

    Maybe if you saw the game you’d see what I meant by gave it everything. It felt like a cup tie. It’s not making excuses for villa or Smith. It’s acknowledging how hard Preston worked for that point.

    Any team will miss a player of Grealishs quality. This time last season we had played half a season without a fully fit Grealish. We averaged 1.64 ppg and only 4 points better off than where we are now. For the second half of the season with Grealish in the side we averaged 2 ppg. Had he been available for us all of last season I’ve no doubt we would have got top 2. He is priceless and we need him back ASAP.
