  1. Why do people care so much against the historic stature of football clubs? Bizarre.
  2. We started with 2 strikers against Wolves away from home didn’t we? It meant we sacrificed midfield though and were completely overrun. In the return fixture, we played with a 3 man centre mid and 1 up top and it was much more effective. Probably not more attacking, though?
  3. He played younger players this season and we finished as 3rd highest scorers in the division. The only thing that won’t change is the antiquated views of Steve Bruce.
  4. No-one is touching Scott Hogan based on what he supposedly earns and what he’d demand. James Chester may well be our best “sellable” asset outside of Grealish. I guess it depends how accurate the £45m shortfall figure is.
  5. I see both sides - we’re a competitive team in this league, we’re not in the Premier League. We’re under financial pressure in this league, we wouldn’t be in the Premier League. It’s sad that football has gotten to this stage - but the aim is basically to survive in the Prem. Grind out 0-0’s against top clubs if you can, but don’t worry too much about that. Your success is determined by a handful of games versus those around you. Ultimately, you need the £120m+ each season otherwise you miss out on the battle for mid-table, Premier League status. There was a claim for Rafa Benitez to win manager of the year this season - his side finished 10th with 44 points. They won 31.5% of their games, were closer to 0 points than the points haul of the Champions and, despite finishing 10th, were equidistant from 7th and 17th. That’s, apparently, a modern-day success story, and is what we’re striving for. Joy.
  6. It definitely could be, but we wouldn’t be getting a player anywhere near as good as him as replacement. In the Championship, I think those kind of players make a massive difference - possibly not so much in the Prem. Would I rather have £30m or Jack Grealish? Probably the latter.
  7. He didn’t need to address it. His keeper helped the team get to the Champions League final. His keeper made great saves during that same game. They finished fourth in the league too - again, he hasn’t cost them. The only time he has cost them has been, unfortunately for Karius, in the biggest game in European football. The difference between Liverpool losing against Real and Liverpool winning was not the fact they didn’t have, say, David De Gea in goal - and even De Gea looked shaky as hell for a season or so at Man Utd. So, yes, garbage.
  8. Utter garbage. Liverpool weren’t expected to challenge on either league or CL front this season and yet, with the World’s worst goalkeeper, they managed to get to the CL final. The overreaction to these mistakes is pretty hilarious.
  9. I thought Karius had been decent generally tbh. He made some great saves in the final too (particularly from a Ronaldo header?). Unfortunately, unlike any other position on the pitch, he will now only be known for those mistakes - and people will judge him purely based on those (as is already happening).
  10. Not even anywhere near being close. There is no-one with the arrogance of C Ron. (Ramos is just a horrible human being).
  11. We need to keep him. If we do, I’d be confident of challenging for promotion again next season.
  12. I think we’re short at centre back, but actually in a pretty good place overall and just need to utilise the loan market well again.
  13. I actually thought he made some brilliant saves. Shame for him.
  14. Apologies if mentioned previously, but it’s apparently 36 years to the day since we won the European Cup. DESTINY?!?!
  15. I’m not critical of the failure? I’m critical of him glowing about nutmegging someone on social media. Experiment in matches, use whatever flair you have, but it isn’t a success just pulling off a trick.
  16. Costa Rica’s miracle World Cup 2014 was incredible. I’d be utterly amazed if they get out of their group this time round, and it’s a much easier one on paper.
  17. Petulance, arrogance and poor sportsmanship. Ever since the whole mass-stepover shit at Man Utd, I haven’t liked him. Thankfully, he hasn’t changed. The whole winking thing playing for Portugal when Rooney got sent off, the classic standing with hands on his hips when something doesn’t go his way. He’s just a clearing in the woods. Fantastic player though, of course. Edit: also, what is a “born winner”?
  18. I think Fulham are the favourites and that's solely because of Mitrovic, who has been an inspired loan signing. If Terry/Chester is able to handle him, then I'll have more confidence in our chances. That said, for a solidly unspectacular club that I know incredibly little about, the Fulham fan base isn't half irritating. Where has it all come from!? Is that what a long unbeaten streak does to fans?
  19. I think this will be the problem with a combined team here. There are players who people have heard are good (Sessegnon, Cairney, Fredericks, Mitrovic) and then the rest of the Fulham team. As such, I'd fully expect all 4 of those players to be included and the rest to be Villa players (basically as per the team quoted) - even though people generally think Fulham are a better side.
  20. Shameful that the description of that video says "PUNCHES". I mean ffs
  21. Not for me. You have a clear winner - Brazil - and a clear weak link - Costa Rica. It's close between Switzerland and Serbia, possibly. H doesn't have this at all; potentially Japan as the weak link. I think F is a tighter group than E. Germany should win it, but you could make a case for any of Mexico/Sweden/South Korea finishing second.
  22. Think that was also mentioned on the "vs" list. Federer on the same side as Messi, Barcelona, AC Milan etc.
  23. I can't remember which podcast I was listening to, but they came up with a theory that people fell on either side of 'great' footballing rivalries, and whichever side you fell on determined whether you were, essentially, a "good" person or a "bad" person. It was something like: Messi or Ronaldo Barcelona or Real Madrid AC Milan or Inter Milan Dortmund or Bayern Munich Celtic or Rangers People, they claim, either favour all of the first choices or all of the second.
