    But... what's the point?

I don't fully understand the point of them. Just words removed being words removed?
  3. Unless they can prove match fixing or spot betting involving a player (both of which should lead to lengthy bans irrespective), what is banning a player doing exactly? It's a sport absolutely filled to the rafters with sport betting advertising. Just get rid of it all and get players who may have a problem some help, instead of handing out silly bans.
  4. Sadly, addiction doesn't involve the kind of normal, rational thinking of someone who isn't addicted. Unlike Toney, this seems to be a guy who has an actual problem. Football needs to take a long, hard look at itself instead of enforcing bans for it.
  5. Airport/NEC Villa, Airport/NEC Villa FC! We're by far the greatest team - the World has ever seen! And it's... Airport/NEC Villa...
  6. Wow, one for the forgotten players thread! He looked handy for Southampton, too.
  7. I think we would be if we were replying on Twitter (X) but on here? Nah. It's a venting space.
  8. He's been woeful all game. There was a penalty appeal by Foden earlier and the main commentator said something like "they're doing a check for a penalty" with (apparently Rob Green) then going for "yeah, it's another one of those where... it's a hard, long... slide... yeah". I have no idea what he was trying to get at.
  9. I'm guessing for the tournament that happens in, what, 3 months?
  10. For what it's worth, that wasn't a bad half of football. We're far the better side but have **** up twice at the back and been punished.
  11. Morgan Rogers with a goal for the U21's (winning 5-0 now against Luxembourg U21).
  12. I don't think we do, and I don't think Watkins stays at home.
  13. I don't think England should have been challenging for the World Cup in 2018; and we weren't. We failed to beat every decent team in front of us. That we happened to get to the semi-final is because we didn't meet a decent side until we hit Croatia and we lost. Croatia are hardly a mega nation either - they had been overperforming. We were on a side of the draw that avoided all of France, Brazil, Argentina, Portugal, Belgium (already beaten us in the group) and I'd argue Uruguay are a stronger outfit than Croatia. We played the most favourable group winner possible in Colombia and still failed to beat them (penalties to go through). No nuance is considered here; we just see "Southgate gets England to semi-final". This is very much hindsight, though. There was an absolute love-in with Southgate after this tournament; to a point I can't remember any other England manager having had the same backing... ...this continues to 2020 which sees an emergence of a whole host of genuinely world class attacking players breathing life into the England side. We're at home - largely - and have Grealish (finally) coming into the setup with Foden, Saka and Sancho (Dortmund version) in other attacking positions whilst having a more experienced Rashford and Sterling who Southgate has continually backed. There was a belief that this was meant to be but the style of play just didn't fit with the players Southgate had at his disposal. Getting to the final here was more impressive than the World Cup semi-final and, whilst the play was poor IMO, we did well and Southgate should be largely commended - penalties are a lottery, really. But with the players available and how the situation unfolded, it was slightly disappointing not to win. I doubt we'll get a better chance.
  14. Only just caught up on this following a BBC article. I'm not of the opinion that many people need a bullet, but ol' Joey does.
  15. Yeah, I'd imagine most people will have heard it. It's a classic trance track; great era of dance music to be fair.
  16. This was the bulletin that I caught some of. In the article where it states: "She claims that Palestinians want to leave Gaza and that other countries should take them in - although in a lengthy interview, she rarely uses the word "Palestinian". "The world is wide," she says. "Africa is big. Canada is big. The world will absorb the people of Gaza. How we do it? We encourage it. Palestinians in Gaza, the good ones, will be enabled. I'm not saying forced, I say enabled because they want to go." ...the interviewer pushed her a few times on the use of "Good Arabs" and asks something like "what about those who you don't deem to be 'good'?". There's no comment other that "Good Arabs" will be forced out. r.e: the bit in bold, it also had an interview with some bloke living in a settlement in the West Bank who basically said God has given the land to Israel. We can discuss a far-right government as much as we want, but I imagine this is a fairly consistently-held line within Israel's people. Religion, eh?
  17. I was similar as a kid… international football (outside of tournaments) just never appealed to me. I’ve always enjoyed club football and used to love watching Barcelona (in particular); would always have favourite individual players but friendlies etc were dull. Tournaments are different, though. Presumably your lad is looking forward to Euro 2024?
  18. Yeah. To be fair to Southgate, he's won all the games he's won.
  19. They've appealed it Presumably because "why the **** not?"
  20. Groups don't matter, third place doesn't matter... you're solely focused on winning tournaments, eh?
  21. You're missing group games for some reason. 2018: Struggled past Tunisia with a 91st minute winner, hammered Panama and lost to the only decent side in the group - Belgium. Pretty crap in the group tbh. Drew against Colombia and won on penalties, fine against Sweden (don't really remember the game) and won 2-0, lost to Croatia. Lost to Belgium. 4(?) decent sides faced, 0 wins. 2020: Avenged defeat against Croatia with a 1-0 win, drew a home game against the old enemy, Scotland, beat Czech 1-0. Again, pretty crap group but through. Then we played well against Germany and Ukraine, edged past Denmark in extra time and drew against Italy, losing on penalties. 3(?) decent sides faced, 2 wins. 2022: USA, Iran and Wales in the group - should be a cruise group, easy enough but drew against USA 0-0. Beat Senegal with ease, lose to France 2-1. 1 decent side faced, 0 wins. I make it 8 decent sides faced in tournaments, 2 wins. Good enough?
