  1. We have Buendia and Bailey trying to play quick passes that are often inaccurate or mishit - this is a fairly common occurrence. Watkins can take to many touches on the ball that lets the space close down quickly. When I mentioned Felix and Torres, all I was referring to was a player who was 'more natural when taking the ball under control and finding a teammate with a well-weighted pass'. It seems there is a recognition from Emery that we need this element when going forward, and I think the current combination of players on the pitch show that. It sounds like I'm bashing our lads - I'm not - I'm actually a fan of them all...but we do need a different skill set to add in up there imo. That's how I see it.
  2. The blue line on the back of the shirt and the blue stripe on the shorts is
  3. Digne getting higher up the pitch the Chambers on the other side. Chambers playing some lovely passes through the lines to the midfield and forwards from a deeper starting point...and then working forward more slowly to support the more gradual build up of pressure as opposed to Digne who goes forward with more of a burst.
  4. Playing really well. Looking solid and playing through a decent team nicely. Only observation is that the combination of Watkins, Bailey, Buendia, and Diaby creates a lot of turnover up front. You can see how a player like Torres, Felix, or even Ramsey in that attacking set would progress the ball with a bit more reliability.
  5. If that was just a navy shirt with the thin pinstripes it would be quite smart. Less is more. I know there is licence with a third kit...but I don't think this is out-there enough to be so-shit-it's-actually-good.
  6. Yeah, I agree with this. Buendia being the other main other one. Just needs a run of five or so games where he contributes well, similar to the end of last season.
  7. I thought he may have been up against Ollie for the striker position, but I actually think he's more of the second striker (unfortunately for Cam as he's up against a ruck of players there) He can't do what Ollie does in leading the line, but he can finish very, very well. Makes me think he be lethal feeding off Ollie and working with him at the top end of the pitch rather than replacing him.
  8. No one should be calling for his head after a 30 minute pre-season outing. However... He should technically be the most up-to-speed out of everyone due to playing internationals...I don't think that came across. He trips himself and whiffs at the ball more than any player I've seen. It kind of sticks out like a sore thumb when you try and remember his overall contributions. The two through balls that hit him on the back both times fit with that too. They were infuriating as he would have been in on goal.
  9. No doubt. He still has all his quality, but I considered him utterly press-resistant last year (bar Leicester at home) Maybe it's down to pre-season rustiness, which shows the benefit of playing Prem teams in a stronger competition. ...or it could be that everyone's level has increased so he doesn't stand out as a such a different class of player as he used to.
  10. Strange pre-season for him. He absolutely purred for us last year but didn't quite seem the same. Luiz has put himself as number one on the midfield list, I wouldn't be shocked if Tielemans was number two at this point. In all fairness though, I don't think it really matters who starts, whoever comes on will be one quality player for the other.
  11. Overall I think we've had a great set of matches over there. The overall results will say two draws and a win, but the football we have played has been exceptional for the most part. Emery's completely upgraded every player's skillset and has them working as a team. It's fantastic.
  12. The take from Emi's quick kick was beautiful.
  13. That Hearts kit is superb. Really classy.
  14. I quite like the fact that this Women's World Cup feels like Men's World Cups from yesteryear in the sense that scouts are having a field day spotting players that would not be seen otherwise. Interesting to see if anyone comes Villa's way afterwards.
  15. Nice kit. The blue shorts look so good with the new round badge. Surprised we haven't taken inspiration from the Holte before this.

I watched the first 10-15 minutes before falling asleep and noticed him playing some really nice passes, both long and short, in between lines of Fulham players across the floor. It looked like he started pretty well to me.
  17. I haven't see the whole match, just the highlights...how was his overall game? How did he compare to Watkins when he came on?
  18. I've only watched the highlights, but the big thing that stands out for me is the run and touch for the penalty and (more importantly) that after missing, within moments, he was there again to make another run, receive, and get a shot away. That's the natural striker in him. A very good sign.
  19. He played very well for QPR for the first half of the season. He was ticking along nicely and arguably their strangest performer. Then QPR lost their marbles and began messing with managers in the second half. That never helps. I agree he needs another loan, but he did well in his last spell away despite QPRs best efforts to implode.
  20. He used 'voila' quite a lot...which I imagine is a gap fill very similar to 'y'know'. **Searches frantically, yet unsuccessfully, for Ciaran Clark y'know video**
  21. A second whinge from me about the badge...but you can see what sort of problem we have with our branding with this new design. At least with the old shield it was a unique shape, and in monochrome the lion stood out. Heck will want to sort that imo. The coloured badge in the actual playing jersey works better in that respect.
  22. Annoyed that the (admittedly nice looking hoodies) have Aston Villa with a stinking great set of Castore wings above. Villa is the priority. Also, the monochrome badge looks cheap and lacks clarity on the training gear. Also reminds me of the poor Pride Rewards stuff...
  23. I think it would be better for him to be with us for a bit longer before being loaned out, whether he's too young or not.
  24. Not sure I agree with the 'no end product' in this review. A nice ball across that Watkins was close to, winning a corner from a last ditch interception. A shot that deflected closely wide. Another shot from his weaker foot that was a good effort from the edge of the box. (Those last two created by himself by winning the ball back first) There was also the break away where we scored the third where his cutback was struck against the post. Add as well that he won a penalty against Walsall. He can be held to 'no end product' if counting goals and assists... but I'd say that's a pretty good attacking output - Involved in two goals and worked the keeper/defence with his other two main chances against Newcastle.
