My two cents on the topic. I like them again I think he is a good player to have far squad. My issue is that he has been a “guaranteed starter” for the last three years since we got promoted. We have now upgraded in every other position on the pitch except for where McGinn plays. Wouldn’t this then suggest that the next logical person to upgrade would be McGinn? If we look at this preseason, we are apparently wanting to play in my possession based style. Judging based on the games we have seen in preseason I would have Dougie starting next to Kamara because I think they would be able to do a lot of intricate passing and be better suited for a possession style. how does this affect Ramsey because they have really similar games in my opinion? And how are we going to fit in Bailey, Buendia, Coutinho, (ings/Watkins), Ramsay & McGinn?

Figured they need their own thread as we (I) keep clogging the 'the game's gone' thread. They're apparently convincing Kounde to wait and join them instead of Chelsea. Every of their transfers this window just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth with their financials.

I think Iroegbunam is slightly ahead of Nakamba in the lineup, however, I think that his development would be better served going out on loan to a Championship club than sticking around and being 3rd choice.

where to start with this. Ings inadequate? I have no clue how you could watch last season and come up with that conclusion. Augustinsson satisfactory vs Kamara good, vs Carlos as outstanding? how can you possibly grade them based off a couple preseason appearances Ramsey on the same path as McGinn and Luiz also seems a bit odd with how they performed last season. and Chambers a tier ahead of Mings and Konsa? Chambers made what, 10 appearances? I rate him a bunch, but I just can't get behind putting him ahead of those 2

Problem is we don't know if/why he is not signing. If he has his heart set on leaving, why would he want to leave this summer/january when he can see out the rest of his contract and get a massive signing bonus on a bosman. I don't see anyone meeting the price (and wages) we and he'd demand. I also think he links up much better than Watkins with Phil and Emi. I also have no clue where you are getting the "he's barely the player he was when we signed him" part. Iirc he had the most goal contributions among our squad last year and we know that he didn't play every game. I also think he works better in the type of football that Gerrard will want to play. He's having an awful preseason??? I don't think what I've seen of him has been awful. I do agree with you on Chambers, but as we saw with last year, he is prone to errors (as are most center halfs in the world). And in what way did Mings have a poor season last year? Definitely didn't see an awful season from him last year. Though now we have a lot of genuine competition for 2 spots, the pressure is on him Completely agree with you here. We've signed players to replace starters in every position (since promotion) except for one to replace McGinn. We are at that point now, that he's the next person to get genuine competition for a place (I believe that can easily be Luiz but a new signing maybe). Every time I see him play, he doesn't look suited to play in a possession-based team. ALSO, I don't think McGinn can play as a 2 with Kamara if we go 4-2-3-1.

We’re not going to agree on this but Dougie’s our best 8, Ings our best striker & Mings/Carlos is our best CB paring (Chambers as 3rd option) imo. I’d want to keep Sanson around because I think he has a role to play but wouldn’t be upset to see him go.

Yes I would, he just doesn’t fit our squad at the minute. Already have Bailey/Buendia/Coutinho and Ings/Watkins so where would he slot in? also he’s probably on a ton of wages at Barca

Completely agree with that — I have high hopes for Archer but also feel like a season loan could be very beneficial as well. if we sell / loan both of Archer and Davis then I’d understand getting a 3rd choice. saying first team strikers I meant in the squad, and if we can’t shift / don’t shift either of Archer & Davis I don’t think we can afford to sign another

well that’s no surprise frank… squad’s terrible and financially haven’t been backed. Think only Bournemouth have a worse squad in the league atm

I highly doubt most other premier league non sky 6 clubs have striker options like we currently do … we can’t just be signing depth pieces for the fun of it. Right now there’s 4 first team strikers — I know you say maybe they’re not ready but what team has 3/4 PL starting level strikers in the squad? Maybe Arsenal and Spurs?

Yeah you can really. Luiz has been a first team member for 3 seasons now and has an integral role with the team. Carney’s made maybe 12 ish first team appearances.

Agreed with this — I think we’ll see a lot more rotation then we have in the past few seasons. I also see another midfielder if Carney & Sanson/someone else goes out. though, I’m not sure how McGinn can get a boost of minutes when he’s played almost every game he’s been available for since we got promoted.
