  1. Much fewer tests done though. Who knows, it could be that some level of herd immunity has been reached sharper than expected. Or it could be that half of all pupils being off school from 2 weeks ago had the effect of closing schools early and breaking the link.
  2. Binge watched all 4 episodes of The Movies That Made Us series 2 this afternoon. Back To The Future, Pretty Woman, Jurassic Park, Forrest Gimp. Superb
  3. Oh and Norwegian makes such perfect logical sense. Every verb ends in 'er' Husk - remember Husker - verb of remembering Du - you Du husker - you are remembering Husker du? - do you remember?
  4. Nynorsk eller bokmål? As an English speaker learning Norwegian I'm always surprised at the amount of crossover between Norwegian and English. It's a north germanic language while English is a mix of Latin and north germanic. The accent of saying the ø and words like tur sounds just like someone from Yorkshire, unsurprisingly, given the Viking roots. You have so many Norwegian words that sound like an English word but not a direct translation e.g. kjopper for buy (Shopper). Butikken - the shop (boutique). Bland - mix (blend). Må - must/should (must). Ting - thing. At - that. Hund - dog (hound). Gris - pig (fat, grease?). Almost every word you can make a link to English or Latin or germanic in some way. I find it fascinating and love learning it. Jeg elsker å lære det.
  5. Out of interest, who is that?
  6. I think you'd see Jack and Buendia swapped there.
  7. He didn't say any of it. I know they have their own vaccine certs over there now which has driven massive vaccination bookings but the quote is made up. He doesn't have any kids for a start.
  8. Macron didn't say that, it's fake.
  9. One of my veggie friends (who eats fish so is a pesky tarian and said the other day fancied a bit of chicken so now eats chicken sometimes too) said I had to try oysters when out at a meal. I said I couldn't because I'm veggie and don't eat fish. She said they're not living and are fine for veggies to eat. I didn't believe this but it does seem that bi-valves are basically a plant. No brain, no CNS, no pain receptors, just a collection of cells that filter water: from https://www.theguardian.com/food/2019/sep/27/are-oysters-vegan-kitchen-aide I didn't eat any though because they look **** rank. You're basically eating an arsehole.
  10. I think it depends on the ability to feel emotional pain. Things without a central nervous system like insects don't really count. So fish, no. Mosquitoes, kill with fire.
  11. I'm worse than vegan. I'm a hypocrite because I eat cheese.
  12. How unpopular of an opinion can I get away with? Here goes. I don't see any distinction between animals and humans, physiologically speaking. We're all made of the same stuff but we've got the biggest brains and have managed to become top of the food chain and planet wreckers due to being able to make and use tools. So mammals such as sheep, pigs, dogs and cows are the same as us but have lower intelligence and haven't evolved thumbs so can't easily make and use tools. Therefore, if killing a cow which has a human comparable mental age of about 4 years old and feels fear, emotion, pain, etc is OK, why is it that OK but killing a human is very much murder? Why do people bond so much with dogs while tucking into their beefburger? Why do people go so mad about puppy farms while drinking milk from cow farms where the exact same things and worse happen? I know, it's always happened and it's always how we've done it etc but there's huge amounts of double standards everywhere. I ate meat for 40 years so I was also involved in this but I've never tried to find weak excuses to justify it and always accepted I was a hypocrite.
  13. That was a bit pants. You can do better.
  14. You have to imagine they don't know what trousers are:
  15. Less than I thought considering it's catchup day
  16. Ready for the Tuesday 4pm meltdown when we have 80,000 new cases?
  17. Yeah but the one who dies will massively increase the vote to gift the next leader a huge majority that they then gradually erode away and leave the party unelectable for 30 years.
  18. Yeah I've asked Heather to clarify the obviously false information that it's because of fighting 3 general elections in 6 years when the article in 2018 about Labour being very cash rich was after 2 of those elections. I guess you could posit that in 2016 and 2018 Labour had a way to get the election spending money back quickly whereas something different in 2020 they didn't.
  19. Surely dwindling membership fees and Unite cutting funding isn't helping? I don't remember there being the same problem after fighting the 2017 general election. Quite the opposite, in fact: https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/aug/22/labour-coffers-make-party-richest-in-britain
