  1. Weird one that. We were pretty sloppy with our passes while Fulham were much slicker, but their defence is shocking. Surprised Traore didn't get more of a run out. Around the hour mark we were struggling a bit, I thought it might be a good time to change things up a bit. Happy to see Ramsay get a chance though.
  2. Yep, he ain't gonna play the whole game with his lack of match fitness I wouldn't have thought, so he'll either get the first hour or the last half hour. Might be more effective in the last 30.
  3. I thought he looked good before lockdown, especially I think the semi final where we was really good on the ball and intelligent with his running and passing. Just seemed to die on his arse a bit in the run in. Shame, but good luck to him wherever he goes, and he got to bag a goal in a cup final at wembley which is something to tell the grandkids about.
  4. If you don't like Conor then I don't like you. Yeah, he shouldn't be a guaranteed starter, but he's been with us on our whole upward swing, and he's been a big part of it. Top lad, and if and when we replace him and he stops playing as much, he'll find another home at this level as he's involved with too many goals not to be.
  5. Need a special windfall tax on premier league clubs or something. Doesn't even need to be anything too drastic, just 5% of this year's TV money from each club to be pooled and dished out to clubs below would make an enormous difference. Write it off from FFP stats. What'd that be, something north of £100m?
  6. **** hell no wonder I don't come in the match thread often. What a bunch of miserable words removed.
  7. Fair play ref. He was through. Most would bottle that so early
  8. Thanks mate. I was (loosely) aware of last year's rules, but the way all the pundits were talking was as if something had changed this year too. I think it's a bit of a daft penalty in that if refs are consistent there'll be dozens of cheap penalties this year but yeah, it was refreshing to see one go the other way at Old Trafford!
  9. I've just read the IFAB document about all changes this year and can't find anything changing handball for defenders. Only what constitutes the arm, and tweaking the bit about accidentally handballing while attacking. Cam anyone enlighten me as to what these new rules are supposed to be?
  10. Pretty run of the mill players go for 25-40m now. For a once in a generation talent like Grealish who means what he means to this club, the type of player that very rarely pops up, Man City or whoever can **** off for any less than quarter bil!
  11. Why the hell didn't they do that last year? The random bloke in a shed somewhere being the ultimate arbiter of the match was so bloody stupid. This gives refs their authority back.
  12. Don't know what people are talking about at 70-90m these days. With the way prices are now I wouldn't even entertain an offer of less than 150m. How much did Neymar go for? He's better than that bag of bollocks.
  13. If he's getting £25m over the length of his contract I don't think he'll.mind too much.
  14. I wondered who that number 8 strolling around casually was. He's **** useless.
  15. Neville said something about Phillips getting a call up without playing top tier football, and how it exemplified Southgate who loves giving people chances.....
  16. I did think Brentford's model relies on them releasing players when they can make the step up for a reasonable fee. If they keep hold of Watkins and Benhrama when there has been Premier League interest, other players might in the future be more reluctant to use Brentford as their stepping stone, in case they get trapped there.
  17. I like Trez. I think most here seem to be in agreement for once, he's not naturally technically brilliant, but he tries hard and he must have some footballing intelligence to get in the right place at the right time. He has the stuff that's hard to teach, so if he can learn a trick or two and he keeps applying himself he could be a valuable asset. He shouldn't be first choice, and I hope we bring in stronger, but I like him.
  18. Wouldn't be averse to replacing him as I think he's quite limited, but would seem strange to sell without having a replacement in. He got plenty of game time last year.
  19. I'll be honest I don't really care how long he has left on his contract. If he's cheaper because it's short then great. I would take Romero over Ramsdale any day of the week personally. I know it's a short term fix, but it's a bloody good fix. Worry about him turning 37 closer to the time. I'll happily just enjoy having a selection of top quality keepers rather than what we've been doing the last three years.
  20. Heaton could easily miss the first 8-10 games and be rusty on his return. Playing Nyland instead would cost us points. We saw last season just how valuable a single point can be. Romero for three seasons for £20m or thereabouts (fee and wages) to compete with Heaton to ensure we always have a top class keeper available is an absolute steal for me.
  21. Agree to disagree, but whoever you prefer, having Heaton and Romero means we have a very very good keeper even if one is out with injury. They're no spring chickens, but we'd be sorted in the keeper department for two or three years at least. By that time if all goes to plan we'll have progressed to being at least a solid premier League team and will be able to tempt other top keepers when we need them. It's been a problem position for us since Johnstone left (and I didn't particularly rate him that highly either). Romero and Heaton would be a pair of keepers that very few PL teams could better.
  22. I really really rate Romero. This would be a huge upgrade on any of our fifteen keepers, even Heaton.

People moaning because he's from the championship... Well that's just daft. When Smith came in Grealish was playing in the bottom half of the championship for a struggling club. That was only a season and a half ago. Now we wouldn't sell him for £100m.
  24. As a championship team we had Konsa, Mings, McGinn, Grealish, all of whom have established themselves as Premier League players we wouldn't want to lose. At the time they were all Championship players that would have been excellent acquisitions for many Premier League teams.
