  1. I honestly thought that he had the potential to go on and play for one of the top sides in Europe (eg Real Madrid), but the knee injury has robbed him of that extra yard of pace meaning his questionable positioning now gets punished. A real shame for him, but that's what these injuries do.
  2. Does anyone else wish that he wasn't quite so vocal? I know getting comments from RL was like getting blood from a stone, but we seem to have almost gone to the other extreme with Dr Xia. I'm not saying that he shouldn't say anything, but surely there is a middle ground perhaps?
  3. I agree with most of this, although the 'small time' bit comes across as a bit arrogant. I just hope we can get this one across the line.
  4. That would give us the 2nd and 3rd top goal scorer from last seasons Championship. Top Scorer Andre Gray would've been nice, but I think he wants a crack at the Premier League and rightly so. We do seem to have quite the strike force though, keep them coming.....
  5. Still can't shake the feeling that this deal should've been done at least a month ago, if not longer.
  6. If we signed all of those, I will definitely require some new underwear.
  7. The only frustrating thing about this deal for me is that I feel we could've done it 6 weeks ago, and had him playing in all the friendly matches. I feel it would've been a real statement of intent to the rest of this league, rather than coming off now like a little bit of a panic buy. That said, I'm glad that we've got a goal scorer in, just need a creative midfielder and a defender now and I think that we would be good to go.
  8. http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2016/08/02/aston-villa-agree-ross-mccormack-deal/ Seems promising.
  9. I find myself daring to believe in him. In my mind, Aston Villa should be a top 10 club, and if he can put us back there then he will always have my support. I feel the most optimistic I've felt for about 9 months.
  10. I agree with this. I like to think that I know a good footballer when I see one, I don't need stats to tell me.
  11. I won't criticise his goal return, it would be like criticising Gabby's - neither has really played enough games 'up top' to use it as a stick to beat them with. Coincidently, it's Gabby who he would possibly be replacing, and I wouldn't be against that. Quite honestly, I dont see how anyone could be.
  12. I think mentality is easily our biggest weakness. We always seem to suffer long hangovers after bad results. You're right that we have been in a steady decline since August, and it doesn't seem to be showing signs of any immediate improvement.
  13. Unfortunately this team has relegation written all over it. Its been coming for 4 years and finally its upon us. This would be the greatest escape in the last 25 years at least (I hate all the 'PL history' nonsense as if football was created in 1992), and sadly I think it's beyond us.
  14. I don't think the term 'made your bed, so lie in it' has ever been more appropriate. Instead of coming into the club and throwing his money around, or allowing MON to throw his money around in a way that was never going to be sustainable, we should have built slowly. Sure, we probably wouldn't have had the 3 6th place finishes, but we wouldn't have had the 5 years of shite after either. i think unfortunately we are stuck with him, as he would struggle to get £100m for us as a championship club. Dark times await.
  15. Awful. The video looked horrible, I really fear for the lad's long-term future.
  16. I think we will see a similar set up for the game at Goodison Park. I think the key for any new manager coming into this sort of situation is to stop the rot, and if we can get another point in that game then I can see the shackles being loosened for the home game against Watford. Very impressed with him so far, I think he is the most tactically astute manager that we have had for a long time.
  17. Is it bad that I got a semi when I saw the line-up?....
  18. For me it's a 27 game season starting this weekend, and we need 36 points. We've got to be 100% behind him. That is 9 wins, 9 draws and 9 defeats. That is a big ask IMO considering it's going to take him a few games to fully get his ideas across. I wonder if it's a step too far considering we've already dropped a lot of vital points from 'winnable' home games this season. Could any of you see us winning 9, 10 or 11 games this season?
  19. This thread is just like Groundhog Day - the same people slagging him off and the same people defending him. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
  20. Regarding Lerner, doesn't the money belong to his family rather than just him? I'm sure there is a family trust, which makes it more understandable why they are holding out for the full price. Regarding tonight's game, pitifully predictable from Villa.
  21. Moyes is still my first choice, although I don't think that we'll get him. I just hope that we can get in someone that can actually build something, rather than us just getting another stop-gap before looking for another manager in 12 months time.
  22. We are in a relegation battle already (can't believe I'm typing that in October ffs) so I feel whoever we bring in needs to know English football and know the PL. I would like Moyes, got a point to prove and will tighten us up at the back.
