  1. I’d start him on Sunday against Liverpool. I’m sure it’s not the approach that DS would take, but I’d blood him properly in that match as it’s a free swing, especially after winning the first 2 games. More likely start against Stoke and another cameo on Sunday.
  2. I think he’s a decent defender in the right league. His lack of pace over 5-10 yards and the fact that he turns like a bus make him a liability it the PL.
  3. I’m not saying we’ll sign him, but I have a sneaky feeling that a bid will go in nearer the end of the window for him. Celtic are being forced to sell him due to COVID , they obviously want as much as they can get for him but as time goes on they will be forced to take a lower offer. (All in my opinion of course)
  4. This is the one I really want to happen! I’m certain this guy is going to be dynamite in the PL, he’s quick and he’s got a great shot on him.
  5. I saw on here: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/aston-villa/vertragsende/verein/405 Apologies if incorrect
  6. Needs a new deal imo. Pointless to let him walk away for nothing next summer.
  7. Just a bit concerned about our expenditure. My understanding is that this year and last years will be combined as ‘one’ year and then put with the 2 years previous to that for the rolling 3 year average?
  8. I think we’ve got Jack for 1 more year. If he can produce similar numbers this season to last season then we’ll get the £75m-£80m that we want for him, and we will balance the books for FFP from this season’s big spend imo.
  9. I agree Jas. This could be similar to the Van Dijk situation, and we need to make ourselves the Southampton in that situation imo.
  10. Would be delighted to sign him. In the form of his life, in the prime of his career.
  11. We don’t always agree mate, but we agree on this! I’ve been watching a lot on him this evening and I think we’ve got a real player here.
  12. Those nasty ‘scissor’ challenges need totally clamping down on.
  13. He’s only hit double figures in the league twice and one of those times was in the championship. We’ve already got strikers who don’t score goals.
  14. He’s had a strange career - Only 258 club appearances for a 33 year old, but 96 international caps. Always looked a decent keeper to me, and for £8m it’s good business as having him and Heaton fighting it out for the number 1 jersey is more than good enough for us. Fingers crossed this one goes through
  15. Glad we’re off the mark finally, welcome to the Villa Matty!!
  16. Tbf I think the slow speed of a lot of these deals are down to buying club’s expecting a ‘COVID’ discount, and it being whether the selling clubs can hold their nerve to get the price they want.
  17. Personally, I think this could be a great deal for him. Come to the PL, play well and get your CL move then - young player, done well in 2 big leagues, the CL clubs would be queuing up imo
  18. I’ve seen a fair bit of the “stuff him” type comments. We have to remember that the players who are really going to improve us generally are going to need a bit of convincing to join, we are a club who just stayed in the league and are viewed by most foreign players as a lower level PL side.
  19. I wonder if it’s more a case of us making an original enquiry, and that being blown up to put pressure on RB Leipzig. What I mean is that there is a massive difference between us making an initial enquiry, or being in contact with Werder every day for a month over the deal. If we have enquired even once, then it just gives enough credibility to a tabloid style story to keep us named in it.
  20. You are right, we should do our best by these lower ranked sides. It’s nice to know that while our owners have definitely put their money where their mouths are since taking over, that they are also doing things the right way. Also doesn’t hurt if the goodwill from this deal gets us a jump on the queue for their next up and comer from the academy, as they are clearly doing something right (Watkins, Ampadu etc).
  21. I think almost as much as a goalscorer we need a strong, imposing midfielder. Someone who can rotate with Hourihane in matches that would require their physicality.
  22. I think we missed our chance to sign him last summer, with Spurs and Chelsea interested I don’t fancy our chances with this one.

Is it possible that we are actually benefiting financially from last season’s transfer approach with all the COVID implications? What I mean is, if we’d spent say £200m+ for ‘proven’ players on higher wages, would we possibly be having to lay off club staff etc ourselves? Obviously if we have then it’s a case of it being more luck than judgement, but at least it’s left us in a position where we are looking to spend big again this window as opposed to some of our rivals having to back-pedal.
