  1. ^^^^^ Nah !! Not unless he was Javed Miandad.
  2. " Jefe, what is a 'plethora" ?
  3. troon_villan - don't know if you watch Top Gear (I don't as it happens) but the theme music is a number called 'Jessica' by The Allman Brothers. Probably classed as a 70's Southern Rock band - quite influential at the time. Duane Allman = really highly-rated guitarist.
  4. There is of course an expression, probably only known to the more erudite amongst us, known as 'yodelling in the canyon' !
  5. Some bloke in Hong Kong, described as a "British banker" (is this a spelling mistake), has murdered two young women. The press, from Daily Mail to the BBC, describe them as 'prostitutes' or 'sex workers' . As if this matters - they were two young women !!
  6. Acker Bilk. RIP. Never exactly Benny Goodman but pleasant enough easy listening I guess.
  7. This really upset me too - a seminal musician I associated with my youth. First saw him with The Graham Bond Organisation in 1965 at a club called The Whiskey a GoGo on the corner of Navigation Street; he played a Fender 6 six string bass (Ginger Baker on drums). First saw Cream on one of their first gigs at Willenhall Baths (!!) ; support band were called 'Listen' featuring someone called Robert Plant on vocals. Then saw Cream at The Adelphi in West Brom - they turned up at about 02.00 - (FAO Mr Mooney - went to that gig with Dave Ball). Final time I saw them was at The Swan , Yardley (now demolished ?) Each time they were brilliant; quite complicated numbers and arrangements - no 12 bar knock offs here. They played a number called 'I'm So Glad' which included part of the 1812 overture - Bruce's bass line was stunning. Was he the best ever British bass player? Matter of opinion I guess but don't think we will see his like again. Leemond - Ginger Baker will live forever .... he was a racing cyclist in his youth
  8. Very interesting. Looks like a tri-athletes training ride !
  9. Just got back from Lanzarote; have you ever noticed, particularly when on holiday, that rarely do you see anyone with the same t-shirt as you ? Now admittedly a couple of mine are Team Sky, team issue which you cant' buy - I got 'em from a mate on the squad - but others are quite standard TK Maxx thingies. Apart from the one that says "I choked Linda Lovelace" - which for some reason no-one else seems to wear.
  10. Well the season may have finished but it is still all happening. Jeetan Patel extends his contract with Warks - Excellent ! The self-effacing Pieterson blames Prior for unrest and attempts to lift the lid on dressing-room atmosphere. But the really bad news is that Ashley Giles maybe going to Lancashire. Lancashire !!! Of all counties.

    Drugs

Have you taken Tramadol then Trent ? How did it affect you ? What sort of dose and for how long ? I also was given 'em when I fell off my bike and broke my hip and wondered what other people's opinions of them were. Crash was 18 months ago , still can't jog or play squash but can ride/race on bike but lost stack of fitness. PS . Wondered whether to take 'em before races !!!!
  12. That is a shame - the guy oozes class; so who gets his place - Sam Hain perhaps ?
  13. Don't know if this is the right thread for this comment but has anyone watched the Jeff Lynne concert on BBC 'Red Button'. I didn't much like ELO at the time; not just because of the Blues connection but just thought their stuff was a bit light-weight but move forward 30 odd years and their songs really stand up (IMO). The musicianship is ace - just watch the string section sight-reading their parts - and the numbers sound just like the record, even the excellent harmonies. Can't see many of today's charts bands being able to produce this atmosphere in 30 years time. Just getting old I guess !
  14. Team Sky think that Bradley Wiggins is an important 'brand' so will offer him (or renew) his contract - this week I think.
  15. I did not know that. He isn't on 'Tapestry' or 'Sweet Baby James' which, IMO only, were their most famous LP's. Thought he was more 'rock/funk - but could easily be wrong.
  16. !!!!!!!!!!! this is getting a bit technical for me. Anyone remember the Harold Rhodes business; fast Derbyshire bowler who got 'called' and banned from Test cricket - unfairly IMO. Wonder what he makes of all this. Am told he was very 'upset' about the way he was treated by the Authorities. Anyway - far more important matters ....... Keith Barker in the wickets for Warks - possibly another problem for London Cup (nice one though) ! So - 3 hours on bike in the morning - quick snooze - then down to Edgbaston tomorrow
  17. I had to look Tommy Bolin up; I hadn't heard of him. But, yep, played on Spectrum as you said. Just out of interest, the bass player on that LP, Leland Sklar, is the geezer on the Phil Collins video of Sussudio (sp). Hate to mention Phil Collins but, sadly, he was a damn good drummer ! Yer man Bolin also played with Alphonse Mouzon who I saw at the Odeon in New Street playing with Herbie Hancock. Was hoping it would have been Harvey Mason but Mouzon was a good substitute.
  18. Gigged with Billy Cobham !!! Can you say what his name is; he must be some player. Billy Cobham launched Fibes drums in the early 70's but they disappeared from sight quite quickly - what a player though. "Spectrum" was a seminal LP.
  19. Pilot for the ambulance service eh ! How very altruistic. Wonder how his training was financed and if he had a tiny bit of help getting the post in the first place. Sinecure comes to mind.
  20. Jeez ! For what it's worth, I thought that was excellent ! Reminds me a bit of the Mahavishnu Orchestra. Without being rude, you may be too young to know them but check 'em out on Youtube.
  21. re. Kate and Wills. What wonderful news; another bone-idle family on Benefits having kids one after the other for the tax payer to support !
  22. Excellent night ! I thought we weren't scoring quickly enough and thought Kent (by winning the toss) had prevented us from using the tactic of batting first, then grinding the opposition down with our superb bowling attack (no-one would fancy facing Boyd Rankin at the moment); needn't have worried though ! Missus wanted to leave early 'cos we had been warned that the gate to Canon Hill parking would be locked "at dusk" and we weren't sure when "dusk" was ! So ...... now to the final; can't go - racing a time trial next day but ..... if Bell and Woakes are available who the hell do you leave out ?????
  23. I guess this should really be in the RIP topic but did anyone see Glen Cornick, original bassist with Jethro Tull has passed away. Again, many will be a tad young to have known them but they were cracking musos. Listen to 'Living In The Past' - nice bass intro. RIP
  24. I don't claim to be an expert on cricket (having played at the lowest level possible !) but if you look back, not long after I started this topic, I picked James Taylor. I would have given anything for him to come to us but guess he was settled in East Mids (previous club Leics) and there was a vicious rumour that Warks wouldn't stump up the money. Oh well ! Only half serious re Rikki Clarke but he MUST be better than Stokes. I'll find out tomorrow who that chap is - yes One Rikki Clarke - that's him
  25. ^^^ yep agreed. With my usual lack of bias, what about Rickie Clarke !! Did you know he has his own fan club; organised by a Villa fan ?
