  1. So .... you are Kolley Kibber and I claim my £5 !
  2. Yep, as I said, you obviously entitled you your opinion but just bear in mind:- nearly all cycling kit is made of lycra; the lycra shorts have a chamois leather 'patch' in them to avoid soreness in a vital area; a lot of the 'trade team' kit is very bright which is what you need to aid motorists to see you. I agree, I would find it odd to see grown men walking round in full football kit; but then they aren't playing football ! Just out of interest, my club kit is sponsored and thus could appear as you described. I guess I am just in a bad mood ' cos some moron in a Fiesta came up behind me this morning, blasting his horn whilst one of his mentally defective passengers leaned right out of the window bellowing incoherently - his baseball cap almost blew off !! AND those knobs have just chucked away a 2 goal lead. That is all !!
  3. Well, it's a point of view of course but what would you like them to wear so as not to fall into the category of 'rocket polisher' ?
  4. Full kit rocket polisher cyclists are a massive peeve of mine... Why is that?
  5. Such is my sporting nature that if the team I support (Warks or Villa) look like losing, I don't watch it anymore; puerile I guess. However, my wife continued to watch those wazzacks at Warks and thought she heard one of the commentators say something about Ashley Giles replacing Povey. Don't want to start dubious rumours but has anyone else heard this ?
  6. re. above; just out of interest, many years ago c. 1978, I played in a band that was on the same bill as quite a well-known entertainer called Roy Castle. Fortunately we didn't have to back him as; A) I wouldn't have been up to it and he brought his own trio. His drummer used my drums, which at the time had an Evans batter head on the snare drum. He suggested I use almost the same technique as the geezer in this video with one tension rod slackened right off. What a coincidence and very interesting clip. PS for all those that have never heard of Roy Castle ('cos it was along time ago) he was on tv quite a bit but died of lung cancer which he reckoned had been made worse by playing in smoky venues.
  7. I realise it is rather a 'miserable' way of looking at the situation but I see Northants are in a spot of financial trouble (reported by BBC and Cricinfo). Wonder if this would help Warks to smooth in and get David Willey.
  8. Was about to comment on 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper; one of my son in laws' favourites. Also starred in cult film "They Live" - anyone seen that ? "Kick ass and chew gum" etc.
  9. I reckon David Willey would be a tremendous acquisition, as would have been James Taylor, who Warks were also linked with !!! On a different note, it seems that members don't get in to the T20 quarter finals on their membership; is this new 'cos we were away last year and I can't remember the year before that.
  10. Blimey - they are decent figures ! Noticed your cadence is spot-on too. Good time , 'cos it doesn't look a flat course. Our club has Thursday night 10's too but there are road works on the A50 so just did a turbo. Aren't they "P" courses down there ?
  11. PaulC - do you know why Boyd Rankin isn't getting a game ? Hmm - agreed re. McCullum, pity really.
  12. Watts !!! You have a power-tap ? I only have HRM. What club you in ?
  13. Cannot understand why so many are anti Froome; he is not tainted with drug abuse as far as I know anyway. Noelvilla is dead right tomorrow will be excting ...... but not as exciting as the 10 mile time trial I am riding near Coventry .... as I fight to avoid finishing last !!
  14. Don't know if anyone is following Le Tour this year but amongst all the gloom of that moron Delph and Warwickshire losing to Lancashire an Englishman, Steve Cummings, won todays stage ! Although he is a scouser !
  15. Anyone hear Bob Willis on Radio 4 this morning. The topic was sledging and he singled out Warner and Haddin as the main culprits on the Aussie side. I'm sure we have 'em too but quite unusual to actually name names - good on him (and he did play for Warks !!)
  16. That's very interesting; is the bass drum a converted floor tom by any chance ? A friend of mine works for a carbon fibre company and he had a snare drum made out of carbon. Premier provided the fittings for it but it never took off commercially and I haven't seen any advertised by the big manufacturers (TAMA, Pearl etc). He therefore let me have the drum and I just can't get a decent sound out of it - always sounds 'choked'. I was hoping it would make me sound like Steve Gadd !!!
  17. Two great back to back wins for Warks, so glad I was there on Friday - I actually felt sorry for Derby' s bowlers. On the Derbyshire theme, I'm sure all us cricket fans wish Bob Taylor well following a heart attack - think he is 72. A great keeper IMO and improved his batting no end; I saw an article about his training regime when he was with England; he was a very fit guy(almost fit enough to be a cyclist !) so you just never know do you. Think he will have to have heart bypass or maybe heart valve but I for one certainly wish him well.
  18. In reply to makeminevanilla; nearly all 'racing' cyclists that you see on the roads do have insurance; as do touring cyclists who are members of the Cyclists Touring Club (CTC). With cycling being pretty popular theses days, you never know who is a racing cyclist or a 'weekend warrior' but believe me a good number will have insurance. Mine, obtained through British Cycling, costs about £50 p.a. and covers me should I damage some ones car or cause an accident etc. Perhaps it should be compulsory but then perhaps helmets should be too.
  19. re. above post; I don't think oil was a factor in The Crusades. Were they an "Islamic problem" ?
  20. ^^^^^ Any indication when Chris Woakes might return then Stefan ?
  21. That was a bit close, I could hardly watch; but agreed with comments re. Recordo Gordon - a superb display. However, I am contemplating starting a petition to prevent that spike-nosed get Lloyd from commentating on ANY cricket, let alone matches featuring Lancashire. His inane comments, limited grasp of English Grammar(That were a great shot!) and comedic comments to rival the Chuckle Brothers drive me mad. Up in the same league as Trevor Francis.
  22. "Sir" Lennie Henry is being described as a comedian. Surely this is in breach od the Trades Description Act ?
  23. Did anyone who went see that juggler performing in front of the members stand in the interval ? Quite entertaining .. but what would Denis Compton have thought !!!! (and why no Barker?)
  24. There aren't that many musicians who deserve the accolade of 'legend' but he was one. A lot of people thought that the classic instrumental "Hideaway" was one of his numbers but in fact it was done by Freddie King - no relation. If you haven't heard it and like R & B give it a listen - Clapton does a pretty good version too on the John Mayall LP. The only up side is that we get to see quite a bit of coverage of the great man on the news ......................lets hope U2 live forever !
