  1. I assume that is Jimmy Powell from 'Jimmy Powell and the Five Dimensions' ? God, they were good ; saw them at a club in town called The Whisky A'go go on the corner of Navigation Street - later changed it's name to The Crazy E. Another great talent that should have been more famous.
  2. Right !! That is you off my Christmas card list !! Sadly, I was at a large cycle emporium the other day, trying to sort out the useless outboard cups on the bottom bracket. "Blimey" says mechanic, "We don't see much Campag these days" GRRRRR As regards Meath's point - wouldn't like to say. Do Boardmans come with any written guarantee ? I guess they might try to say it had been mis-used or something but it must be worth a try. Think Specialized come with a long guarantee period - and Cervelo too I think - which doesn't actually help you does it - sorry !
  3. Wouldn't like to comment on legal position but ... I found a hairline crack in my Pinarello time trial bike , on the top tube. I found a place at Moira, between Tamworth and Burton called Carbon Bike Technics. They looked at it and thought that the tubing was NOT cracked but it was either the paint or filler !! used by Pinarello to shape the frame. Just to say, that I can recommend them and they are on the internet.
  4. That looks nice;1969 - does that mean it is pre-CBS ?
  5. Yes darrenm but did he actually say it ?? Some of the riders piling-in have scores to settle. However, if he said that about the paracyclists that is pretty unforgivable .
  6. Anyone following the chaos in British Cycling - it is even headline news ! Any opinions ? I wonder if Sutton actually said these things (and he is a Villa fan ).
  7. Jeez Xann ! That was the theme music to a 1960's radio programme called Mike Raven's R & B (or summat like that). It was essential listening for us 'Mods' but sadly I might be the only one on here old enough to remember it !! It certainly sounds like his style and I see that one of the writers is 'Dixon' ;wonder if that is the legendary Willie Dixon. NB. When I refer to 'R & B'' this was the proper R & B not the tripe that is given that sobriquet today.
  8. Don't think I need to Google him. Didn't he do an excellent instrumental version of 'Memphis Tennessee' simply called ' Memphis' ? Perhaps famous fro playing a 'Flying Vee' - not sure.
  9. Thanks for that LF. Coming later this week I'm told.
  10. Any Warwickshire members on here please ? If so, have you received a fixture list or the guests voucher thingies ? Wife and self have had membership cards but didn't even know we were away to Hampshire this weekend !!
  11. October 2015. My daughter's 30th - that is my son in law on vocals. We had about 6 rehearsals and had a set list of 6 numbers :- Alright Now; The Hunter (Pacific Gas and Electric); Rebel Rebel ; Sweet Home Alabama and Highway to Hell. It would take me ages to get back to a decent standard and I am too wrapped up in bike racing to practise properly !
  12. Well, after reconsidering my poor efforts I thought it best to remove it . But .... here it is again; please don't laugh. Fortunately you can't see me - but very pleased with sound of my TAMA kit considering it is only birch.
  13. I guess this might be the most suitable thread for this comment as it is a direct result of our parlous position. I am told that 'support staff', or some of them , are being called to a meeting on Monday to discuss their futures as a Championship budget presumably won't support the current set-up. What an awful situation for those involved.
  14. Oh agreed, you are dead right; not 40% at all but still high and what I found interesting when I worked in a YOI was that there was only one Indian (a Sikh) out of 600, who was in for involvement in an 'honour' killing, so not a racial issue. 'Honour killing' - now there's an oxymoron if you like !
  15. I perceived 'push' to be a fairly emotive word but perhaps I was mistaken and, indeed, it is not significant that a disproportionate number of prisoners are muslim.
  16. Just out of interest, why are you concerned about 'pushing' this? Do you doubt it or feel that the stats are skewed ?
  17. Great bowling by Jordan. I've always liked him
  18. Should have brought Chris Woakes, not Jordan. He , Jordan, would be damn good - in the Birmingham League.
  19. I reckon that is excellent; it's got some energy which is a priceless attribute. Personally - particularly like the bass player who already has worked out how to drop in and out (less is better unless you are Leland Sklar !) I have played with bass players with years of experience who could not seem to do this. Great vocals too - you must be very proud
  20. I guess that not many here will have heard of this man but David Duffield has passed away. Anyone who has watched cycling on Eurosport, probably more in the 90's and 00's will have heard his commentary. He was considered by some to be, shall I say 'eccentric' but he was passionate about cycling and pretty well informed. He also came from the Birmingham area and was a member of a big Birmingham cycling club called the Beacon Road Club . He was a former racing cyclist which is more than can be said of the current commentators on Eurosport - with the obvious exception of Sean Kelly. Think he lived in Bromsgrove.
  21. British Justice. I note that some fraudsters from Wolverhampton received a sentence of 5.5 years for fiddling HMRC (well the ringleader did) over a diesel fuel scam. However, a piece of excrement who ploughed into 2 little girls in Handsworth , killing them both, gets 4 years. Hmmm.
  22. Ah but you have to remember - he is from Lancashire !
  23. No problem. Agree with you entirely ... but quite unusual in cricket (and unheard of in Cycling )
  24. Hang on a minute; I didn't say it was demeaning to women but it is quite plain, to me at least, that some people in the media thought it was and I THINK that word was used on the TV. I just wondered what others thought; the Australian broadcasters made quite a big deal out of it with a somewhat fawning apology.
