  1. Probably try the tactic of the last local election of trying to differentiate from parliamentary Tories and local Tories. I agree won't work. And you are right about Johnson, to be fair he might be recalled soon anyway. When's the privilege committee due to be completed by?
  2. I suspect a lot just didn't bother. If you look at the actual numbers, Tories were down by about 14,000 votes. However everyone went down, even Labour had about 10,000 less votes.Suggests that most stayed away/couldn't be bothered. 2022 City of Chester by-election[29] Party Candidate Votes % ±% Labour Samantha Dixon 17,309 61.2 +11.6 Conservative Liz Wardlaw 6,335 22.4 -15.9 Liberal Democrats Rob Herd 2,368 8.4 +1.6 Green Paul Bowers 987 2.9 +0.2 Reform UK Jeanie Barton 773 2.7 +0.2 Rejoin EU Richard Hewison 277 1.0 New UKIP Cain Griffiths 179 0.6 New Monster Raving Loony Howling Laud Hope 156 0.6 New Freedom Alliance Chris Quartermaine 91 0.3 New Majority 10,954 38.8 +27.5 Turnout 28,541 41.2 –30.5 Labour hold Swing General election 2019: City of Chester[30] Party Candidate Votes % ±% Labour Chris Matheson 27,082 49.6 –7.2 Conservative Samantha George 20,918 38.3 –2.2 Liberal Democrats Bob Thompson 3,734 6.8 +4.1 Green Nicholas Brown 1,438 2.6 New Brexit Party Andy Argyle 1,388 2.5 New Majority 6,164 11.3 –5.0 Turnout 54,560 71.7 –5.7 Labour hold Swing –2.5 Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_Chester_(UK_Parliament_constituency)
  3. @bickster, I saw this yesterday which might explain why a fair number of Tory MPs have recently confirmed that they are not standing in the next election Boris Johnson: Former PM announces plans to stand at next election They have until Monday to confirm if they will stand or not, so probably not a sign that an imminent election is about to be called, but certainly for a lot they know the writing is on the wall. I am little surprised Johnson is going to stand though, given how much he is making elsewhere. Ego has gotten the better of him (who would have thought it...).
  4. Back on topic, genuinely always love this thread to come and check more out. However, like @bickster I have felt that there hasn't been quite as many top quality realises this year, rather a raft of "good" records. Will post over the next few days my musings.
  5. I'll come back to the rest of it but WTF is this? Is the rambling statement this http://matthewhopkinsnews.com/?p=8900? If so he is NOT a solicitor. He is a McKenzie friend which is VERY different. They are people who "assist" those going through proceedings but have a limited knowledge on law and usually through personal experience. They also likely have an agenda with it. As he states himself, he was a victim of false accusations so there we go. I wasn't even aware of this until your post but dodgy as hell. If he was a genuine victim of false allegations, he would be able to sue for defamation etc.
  6. I've always noticed this, England are utter rubbish on ITV. I seem to remember us winning once, suspect it was in 2021? I can't recall what that game was.
  7. "Destruction of life is wrong"? Well looking forward to his announcement of turning vegan then. There is no majority to change the rules as they stand? Well why are you seeking to remove the HRA then if there is no will to change it? Utter c*ckwomble.
  8. For being "the land of the free", some Americans have a terrible understanding of what Freedom of Speech actually means.
  9. 20 more games than Gerrard managed before he took the job. Honestly don't care too much but definitely shows that they are happy not to have Gerrard back.
  10. So Jazz Sabbath last night was excellent. Adam Wakeman had greyed his hair to embody the persona of "Milton Keanes" and generally excellent. The ensemble were all excellent as well, including cameos from his dad. What wasn't great was the where the Crescent Theatre is and the fact that N-Dubz were playing around the corner at the NIA/Utilia/whatever branding Arena. It took me 1.5 hours to get out of the car park...
  11. This is very cool, it's Adam Wakeman who played keyboards with them at the end (son of Rick Wakeman) who was doing this sort of stuff for the crew whilst on tour. They are actually playing Birmingham on Saturday at the Crescent Theatre
  12. Caught them on the fear of the blank planet tour at the Wulfrun. Fantastic show and hearing Anesthetize live was pure bliss. got a decent double header with Biffy Clyro tomorrow and then Zeal & Ardor on Saturday
  13. I have to say, it has not really sunk in that this is in a few weeks. With the HR issues, dodgy nature of how it was awarded, the ineptitude of Southgate and the odd timing of it means that it has really passed me by. I will end up watching the odd game (probably suffering the England games and maybe the Final) but certainly won't be trying to catch as much as possible. With it being Qatar has really soured it, just everything is wrong about it. Barring money, what was other reason was there for letting Qatar host? And as for Blatter to say now that it shouldn't host. I know his case was thrown out the other month, but he is linked to most of the corruption in football. Why wasn't he saying that when he was president and/or actually have influence over it? Just stinks and has really tainted football. Also, who are we likely to lose? Martinez, Cash, Bednerak and Dendoncker? Is that it? I know Watkins, Ings and Mings are on the fringes of the England squad but suspect that they will be screwed over by Southgate. Digne and Kamara also on the fringes of the French squad but also seem unlikely. Am I missing anyone? From a purely selfish perspective, normally I want as many Villa but I am quite glad that we are not missing many as it means Emery is going to have a nearly full squad for 2 months to reprogram.
  14. This. I do enjoy Weekend Update is the by far the best bit and the cold opening and monologue vary on quality depending who's doing it. The sketches however are generally cringeworthy and usually based on 1 relatively unfunny joke repeated ad nausea.
  15. Emery will know that they will be smarming from yesterday and will try and smash us in vengence. Suspect it will be quite a strong team and suspect that Fernandes will be starting in light of how woeful they were yesterday. I wonder if we go there and soak up the pressure for as long as possible. Start Kamara (if fit) and Dendoncker (if not cup-tied) or alternatively maybe Luiz, Chambers or even Nakamba(!). Probably look at Watkins Really stop them in the midfield; lots of pressure and really shut them down. See the crowd turn against them and then throw on Ings and/or Archer at the right time in the 2nd half (60 minutes or so) and nick it 1-0. I really do think we see a very different team, if not personal wise, mentality wise at least. It is why Emery already feels like the right appointment.
  16. Immoral and unethical? Absolutely. Illegal? Sadly not. Once the agreement is up, there’s no obligation to offer it at the same, or similar price. This is why there is the need to remove s.21 evictions, won’t happen though as it’s an easy way to make more money.
  17. Not sure of the latest information but s.21 evictions were an option for landlords to remove tenants from properties on fixed terms or rolling basis without any need to justify it, so long as it was done in the proper way. There was confirmation that it was going to be removed but I understand now that it is remaining - to be honest not entirely sure why (save it is a very pro-landlord piece of law). Sadly @PaulC whilst it may be "unethical" it wouldn't technically be illegal.
  18. One of the (many) misinterpreted European Laws Rules. Whilst we have to consider the impact of the HRA (and convention of Human Rights), UK Judges only have to take the Courts decisions into account; they don’t have to follow it. UK Supreme Court & Europe There is almost certainly a pragmatic, cost effective way to deal with the immigration situation in a humane way, it just doesn’t suite the Tories to solve the problem.
  19. I mean, she isn't right to hold any position of power but that isn't going to be the Tories view. We normally expect ex-cabinet members to creep back in after a while (when people had forgotten) but it has been 1 week when she technically resigned for breach of security. If she wasn't fit to be a minister last week for valid reasons, why is she fit to be a minister this week? Utter farce.

Some quotes on the English language version of the website at least https://villarrealcf.es/en/news/item/35951-emery-i-felt-at-home-at-villarreal The most interesting quote is "Here I have been able to be me. They have given me great conditions to bring out my best version." I wonder if that is a slight dig at a previous job(s)? It also seems we acted fast, certainly with Villareal. Whether we were making noises before or not it is difficult to tell.

Can I check, is there any Villa fan that is not happy with this?! It may be one of the first decisions that everyone agrees with! Feels like it is the final piece in the puzzle. We saw on Sunday that actually the players have been underperforming before and this is already a top 10 team, maybe higher. He isn't coming here to make up numbers or dwell mid table, he is here to win trophies. Absolutely love it.
