  1. Sorry, I don't have a list of former players turned coaches and their playing deal expiration dates, strangely enough. But plenty of players have retired before their deals expired and moved into coaching You can't name one but there are plenty? Come off it.
  2. Given, Bent and N'Zogbia have cost us about 10mil a year in wages, for example.
  3. http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2015/06/03/everton-linked-tom-cleverley-hints-why-he-could-return-to-aston/page/1/ Seems like an odd thing to say, if you're going. Doesn't sound like it's done and dusted yet.
  4. Can you name a player who has done the same? Even if they did, did they write off the year or did they get bought out of it for a lump sum?
  5. This - it's amazing he's stayed for 100 games. He's top class and can do a lot better than us. I really, really hope he stays but if he doesn't - I'll totally understand.
  6. It'd be sad to lose him to a close rival - he's a good player.
  7. If we're signing 3-4 new strikers this summer that's likely 30-40m. We don't have that and we need other areas of the team like the defence to rebuild. I'm hoping for more goals and creativity from midfield so that will hopefully balance out some of the goals we lose from Benteke if his replacement isn't very good. I think keeping Benteke, letting Weimann and Gabby go and trying to get one guy to replace them, would work. We'll more than likely be playing with one guy up front next season, so we don't need 3-4 strikers. Tekkers, Kozak and Robinson might just do it actually.
  8. Yep, I understood what he meant. I stand by what I said, though. So instead of paying him a fraction of what we would for the next 12 months, you'd rather pay him the full whack because you think we've paid him too much money? Ooookaaay In what world is Shay Given going to write off 3 million quid to become a coach?
  9. Considering he came up through the youth system and is effectively one of our own, some of the things said about him have definitely been unduly harsh. Its not just him, every academy players comes in for a lot of stick, borderline abuse from a section of villa fans. Yup - it's absolutely disgusting.
  10. That's the right sort of level for him - I imagine we'll get a couple of mill for him, they're still a reasonably sized club and he could do some damage in the Championship. Hope it works out for him elsewhere.
  11. 83.1% pass completion, Westwood has 83.7 for the season who people say rarely loses the ball that shows how meaningless stats are then. Or how wrong/biased people can be? Stats don't tell the whole story but there's nothing wrong with using them to back-up an argument.
  12. Yep, I understood what he meant. I stand by what I said, though.
  13. I hope not - he's had enough bloody money from us.
  14. This. He's cost an absolute bloody fortune since McLeish bought him. Him and N'Zogbia have been absolute f-yous from that utter tosser - so much money pissed away on those two guys.

    Losers

As a football club, you can't just accept that the circumstances are against you and you've not really got a shot at winning anything. It's reality but it's suicide to do so. You've got to keep pushing as hard as you can regardless.
  16. So: Benteke/New signing Somebody clearly not good enough Somebody who isn't a striker Somebody who has barely played in 18 months Somebody who has almost no experience in the prem Doesn't fill me with confidence.
  17. Considering he came up through the youth system and is effectively one of our own, some of the things said about him have definitely been unduly harsh.
  18. They'll sell Jerome to another team that's looking to get promoted, I imagine. The championship is his level and he's good there - as said above, he can't cut it in the prem.
  19. No, playing against a far better team, with better players and a much more experienced manager were the issues. The world doesn't just revolve around us, you know.
  20. If we lose him, in all probability it's going to be late because a club hasn't got in who they wanted and are desperate for a quality striker. This is the danger with release clauses.
  21. I agree - ideally you want a talented professional who genuinely loves the club but failing that, I'll take someone who puts his all in to every game and is talented. Work rate's a great attribute but at this level, if you haven't got the talent it's very noticeable. We need talent. Desperately.
  22. This - we need professionals above all. James Milner was another who gave it his all (despite the fact that he knew he was leaving). Talent=Professionalism>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Being a 'local lad' like Lee sodding Hendrie
  23. The Sanchez goal changed everything. We were in the game until that point. That's what you get when you pay 30mil odd for a player, nothing we'd know about tbf.
  24. You better be right about this one Richard. I want something to be happy about this summer.
