Anyone ever read any Norwegian writers? For a long time I almost exclusively read foreign, mostly English language, writers, but I have recently learned to appreciate the literary heritage of my own native culture.

Wrong choice of first Hemingway novel. Don’t get me wrong, I loved it, once I finally got around to reading it. I first discovered Hemingway at 20, and absolutely sprinted through A Farewell to Arms and The Old Man and the Sea, moving on to FWTBT expecting to keep the same pace going. I too found the language odd at first, and very rough reading. Never finished it until last year, when I breezed through the whole thing in two days, being more prepared for the rather archaic tone. It’s a great book, but not where I’d start with Hemingway. A Farewell to Arms is more accessible, and his short story bibliography is just amazing.

You’re an excellent writer, mate. Much better than a lot of people who are being paid decent money to write.

But. It will always exist. ...won’t it? Other than VT, nicotine (smokeless) is my main and only proper addiction. I do think I am prone to addiction, though. I’ll get easily hooked by games, working out etc. I’ll also feel physical stress if I have to miss a Villa game, or can’t attend home games for my Norwegian team (I’ve missed about a handful in a decade). I guess that is a form of addiction.

My mother has been diagnosed with bone marrow cancer. I’m devastated and feel completely lost. I’m also very thankful we live in a country where she’ll receive the best possible care and treatment without having to worry about the cost.

We have to use this as motivation. Completely screwed over by corruption and/or gross incompetence.

Very difficult for the pitcher to grip the ball, grounders become wildly unpredictable for defenders, and also because of increased risk of injury (which sounds soft, but remember the earlier point about ball grip and the fact that they play 162 games/season + play offs.)

While I’m not prepared to crown him the long awaited heir to Benteke just yet, if he keeps giving performances like that, we’ve got one hell of a player. Immensly strong, quick, good passing, tireless running and smart movement, and his finish for the goal was as cool as you’d want. Proper complete striker.

Mings and Engels will potentially be even better than Olof and Laursen, I think. They are both comfortable bringing the ball out and can go past opposition players in a way I can’t recall seeing neither Mellberg nor Laursen doing.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen André Gomes do anything on a football pitch, other than looking like an Ancient demigod of the sulky variety. This includes his time playing in some fairly decent Barcelona teams. How he has tricked the football world into paying him millions is beyond my comprehension.

What a great feeling. We got the luck that eluded us last weekend, and Everton will wonder how they never scored, but we played a good game and look like we belong in this league. Wesley was fantastic, as was Freddie Guilbert. Mings and Engels is just a superb duo. Grealish pulled the strings in midfield. And the atmosphere at VP. Bloody hell. Can I also comment on André Gomes? What does he offer to a team, and how the f*** did he ever play for Barcelona?

I’m gutted we’ve walked away from that with nothing. We were the better team and created enough to have scored a hatful. We asked questions of them throughout. The only problem was that one of those questions was «how would you like to be gifted two goals?» Shame, because there were plenty of positives here.
