    You can never have a check after the whistle has blown, the opposition will just say they stopped playing.

    The linesman is only supposed to flag when it’s definitely offside so that’s a major **** up, and the ref should only blow when the phase of play is over so that’s a major **** up. It can’t go to VAR after that though.

    Slight parallels with Whelan in that he scored the equaliser for Stoke that was the start of the downward spiral in the Lerner era and then ended up playing for us, while the collapse against Wolves last season was the start of the current rot and Dendoncker assisted the equaliser before now joining Villa. In both cases, it’s easy to imagine those transfers wouldn’t have happened were it not for their goal involvements.

    How about we sign the players that other clubs are apparently trying to buy as upgrades to our targets, i.e. Gerson and Lacroix/Ćaleta-Car instead of Dendoncker and Bednarek/Dawson. Just a thought.

    It’s genuinely not, but it all depends on who and when is the next manager. Get Poch in before Leicester and we have a good chance of top half, which wouldn’t exactly be a wasted season considering we haven’t haven’t achieved that in a decade. Newcastle were in a much worse position squad and points wise while Bruce was still in charge last season, and even for a few games after Howe took over IIRC.
