  1. Gerrard feels different. The Liverpool connection makes this feel much more like Purslows personal appointment than Smith did. Smith made perfect sense to everyone at the club and the fans, and 2 years of brilliant success helps. I’m not sure the Gerard's appointment ever felt that obvious or natural, which makes the Purslow connection seem more influential to the appointment. Maybe I’m wrong and all the stats back up Gerrard as the outstanding candidate but it doesn’t feel like that.
  2. I don’t think he’s under much pressure at all yet. Gerrard is Purslow’s man so I would be very surprised to see him sacked before 10 - 15 games have passed assuming he scrapes the odd draw. It will be bloody expensive to sack him also.
  3. Feels like a slow march towards his sacking during the World Cup break now.
  4. Should hopefully see a good reaction from the lads in this game and some corrections from Gerrard in team selection (Watkins, Luiz and Mings in the team I hope). Seems everyone has decided we will never win another game under Gerrard but it really isn’t that tragic yet and I would hope that we would see the return of some good form after that wake up call at Bournemouth. I would take a good performance regardless of result.
  5. The asbestos at St Andrew’s is a world class blend I’ll have you know.
  6. There’s no need for bad blood to be honest. We have made Carney a more than fair offer but he is not interested so we need to shift him for a fee this summer before he leaves on a free next year. He’s not important enough to our team to warrant running down his contract so selling is the right move. You win some you lose some. Hopefully we can create a bit of buzz and get a fair fee.
  7. It’ll be a shame if Sansón leaves without ever getting a proper run in the team but you have to trust the managers assessment, and all evidence suggest neither Dean Smith or Gerrard rate him enough to give him games. I remember the chat around this transfer at the time was that while Sanson wasn’t a player we we’re in great need of it was a good deal and a ‘clever’ piece of business with Marseille in financial trouble. It feels like transfers like that rarely turn out well, I remember the Donny Van de Beek to Utd and Minamino to LPool transfers were talked about in a similar tone. It’s obviously better to buy for squad need rather than good business.
  8. How about something uncontroversial such as:
  9. The younger brother is always the evil one.
  10. lol it ain’t real it’s on that fake villa report Twitter account. An obvious troll and good one at that.
  11. Need to have a look at Archer in pre-season. If he’s good enough, retain him for the first team squad and promise him the cups and time off the bench. If not then send him out on loan again for 6/12 months and get a short term striker fix sorted. We can then make an informed decision next year on a new long term signing. It seems rash to replace Watkins or Ings with a new expensive signing on the back of one iffy and disrupted season and with Archer threatening to break through. We need that money for a midfielder.
  12. With Ings, Watkins and Archer we have *decent* striker options but that could always be improved upon. Therefore, I imagine the club are shopping around for a opportune good deal rather than actively targeting the position as a priority. The central midfielder position is the role I think we are targeting heavily as it is much more of a priority to me.
  13. Emi is living the dream with breaking in to Argentina first team, lifting the Copa America and now heading into a World Cup as one of the favourites. All of this was achieved playing for villa so I think he can appreciate how good this move has been for him and won’t want to leave yet. Next year he might start think about reaching the top tiers of club football but hopefully we can progress in line with his ambition.
  14. Wow good business for once: Turning a profit on a player that was surplus to requirements. Would now like to see a promising young LB come in and develop behind Digne. Good luck Matty!
  15. I would sell if there is a good fee on the table. I think Luiz has looked mediocre in this team for a long time now. Italy would be perfect move for him in my opinion as the extra time on the ball would suit his style. Always thought Luiz needs a second longer than all other players to make a pass and that leads to a lot of turnovers getting caught on the ball and a lot missed passes as passing lines get closed down. Not sure that is going to change now given he has had 3 years in English game already.
  16. Hopefully with some internationals and a pre-season behind him, we will see the best of Leon next year. Probably depends on what system Gerrard and Critchley settle on though as he doesn’t really fit into a system with no wide players. Very much signed for Dean Smiths system so may be hard to get a run of games and even harder to assert yourself with a few mins off the bench every now and then.
  17. He scored goals that kept us up. Without the Ben Mee assault he would have been a lot more productive in the second half of the season than Samatta ever was. He was tracking towards 10-12 goals before his injury which I think the club would have been happy with all things considered in the first season back in the prem. The mistake with Wesley was probably offering him a long contract and big wages when realistically we were going to outgrow him in a season or two. The Injury has just exacerbated that.
  18. Can we play wingers now please?
  19. Trying hard to see the positives…could it be a blessing? Would anyone say we put on a tactical masterclass last season at any point? Maybe a change is good.
  20. Ah well. Hope we get a nice contract buy out fee at least.
  21. Nice early signing that! Hopefully he is the missing piece of the puzzle so we can retain possession in midfield for more that 5 seconds.
  22. Frustrating player. Don’t think I’ve seen a striker so bad in one on one situations. He does a lot of good things and his work rate is unbelievable but I think his bad traits have started to overtop his good traits this season.
  23. He doesn’t run with the ball or beat a man, he seems to want an age to pick a simple pass, doesn’t contribute to set pieces or many crosses. He’s a serviceable No. 6 but definitely not a No. 8 for me. I would probably let him go this summer on the basis if he was going to be a big player for us he would have shown it by now, but he still seems to frustrate a lot of time.
  24. I think you are on to something. The atmosphere improved so much once Ramsey and Buendía came on and we began to retain the ball and pass it nicely around the midfield. Hard to get an atmosphere in first 70mins when it seems we can’t wait to hand over possession and Mings’ 10th long ball towards Watkins has failed.
