I voted for the "Who gives a shit" option. But now, having subsequently read this:

When S**T goes down it should stay down - to think otherwise is disgusting and unhygienic!!!

and had to make 9 visits to the bathroom just to try and flush away an annoying floater, I don't think it would be right if Gary Cahill's wonderful goal and one of Milan Baroš's most satisfying performances should have been in vain. So I've changed my mind. Stay down you shit.

UP & AWAY

Blues will splash cash if promoted

Exclusive by Adrian Milledge

DAVID SULLIVAN has revealed he is prepared to spend "big money" to turn Birmingham City into a Premiership force and put Aston Villa in the shade.

The Birmingham City co-owner has come under fire from fans after questioning whether some of them deserve to see the club back in the Premiership.

Multi-millionaire Sullivan's blast came in anticipation of Steve Bruce's promotion-chasing side being watched by the lowest league attendance at St Andrew's since 2000.

Just 15,854 turned up to see Blues beat Stoke City and go second in the table, six points behind Derby but with two games in hand.

But Sullivan refuses to be sidetracked from the mission he began 14 years ago when he rescued the Blues from the brink of bankruptcy.

Neither will his willingness to sell his stake in the club get in the way of his aim to make City a major player.

He said: "My motivation is to do the best job I possibly can while I'm at Birmingham City. That's my nature - I plan for all eventualities."

Sullivan's tantalising vision for the future includes giving Bruce the financial backing to make the Blues Champions League contenders compete with a new 55,000-seater stadium.

He added: "We will throw some big money around if we go up. There's a big pie [TV money] you get a slice of and we're not carrying a lot of baggage from previous years.

"We've got very few high-earners and we will have the capacity to sign four or five players on huge wages and pay huge transfer fees. We'll be looking to do that."

Sullivan and his partners, David and Ralph Gold, were anything but miserly the last time the Blues were promoted but he admits mistakes were made. Huge transfer fees were paid to sign established stars such as England internationals Emile Heskey and David Dunn.

Others, such as Mario Melchiot, were rewarded with big wages. But the payback was relegation and some hard lessons were learned.

Sullivan added: "We spent a lot of money on wages but didn't have a lot left when we went down. A lot of it went on players who we could walk away from but were supposed to keep us up. They didn't do that."

Now the cash will be splashed on talented young players who are hungry to succeed.

And, after seeing big-money buys Dunn and Mikael Forssell spend more time in the treatment room than on the pitch, recruits will be subject to a rigorous medical examination.

Sullivan said: "We are going to aggressively acquire a lot of good young players in the summer. Hopefully they will be the future of Birmingham City.

"But we had an awful lot of players injured last year and we'll be looking much closer at people's medical history than before.

"If we spend the money wisely and luckily we could be very competitive."

Sullivan envisages his new-look Blues will also play in an arena befitting the team's talents - the proposed City of Birmingham Stadium.

He said: "The City Council have said they are committed to build a stadium to hold major events.

"It wouldn't be built for at least five years but things are happening now and a decision may be made in the next six months. That will bring a completely different feel to the club.

"And if the World Cup comes to England in 2018 there will be matches at the City of Birmingham Stadium.

"Games will be played at big grounds such as Manchester United, Newcastle and Arsenal.

"Our capacity would be 55,000, so we'd should stage some. Villa Park won't be big enough, though!'

Posted this elsewhere but more fitting here-

Breaking the bank for players is what they did last time and all that got them was a squad of half decent players that were only there for the money, and ultimately it got them relegated!! I hope they try this approach again! I mean lets face it who is gonna want to go to that sty, try and break the bank for players and all they will get is hired guns again and it will rip apart the work they had done in putting a team of young players together.

I hope they stay down there where they belong, they are a lesser club, always have been and always will be but if they make it into the premiership somehow i think it will be quite amusing to see the contrast between our two clubs.

Next year we will be trotting around in our lovely Nike kit coming off a very busy summer of transfer dealings where we will be adding players of a similar and better quality as Carew and Young thanks to the greatest chairman in the land! They will have their 2bob kit makers and a maybe one or two decent additions who are there for just money provided by their porn baron owners. Highly amusing!!!

I voted no, I don't want them coming up.

Before the 2002-2003 season I was looking forward to the derbies, thinking that they would not be good natured affairs but have a modicum of dignity (having never witnessed one before). After witnessing their incessant hatred, indignant bleating, their "cup-finals" and racist thug mentality during the matches, as well as the sheer gall they had to charge me £ 45 for a crap view in their shitty away section, I think not.

I'd rather they stayed down and went bust, thanks.

LOL - I read the Sullivan article from newsnow villa-- and came on here to see if it had been posted - well done for beating me to it.

I haven't laughed so much since I watched Hot Fuzz at the cinema last night.

Compare the ranting and pie in the SKy promises of that d&*k to the ambitious humility of Messrs Lerner and Krulak.

Don't take Mr Sullivan too seriously- he's lost the respect of the Blue nose herd and also his grip on reality. Poor desperate sad man- poor desperate bleus fans! (Did I really feel sympathy for them just then? Call my Doctor now!)

That article, is this the same David Sullivan who has wanted to sell the club for a few years now, he's even announced it a couple of times, once recently, yet he's prepared to splash the cash if they come up

Even most noses aren't that unintelligent, they'll se through it straight away - its bollocks

oh and as for the point of the thread, couldn't give a toss to be honest, they can come up if they want but this time, they'll be no match for us anyway

They'll also find it harder to attract players second time around, even the "established stars" will be shy of joining them. Not the other way around as sullivan suggests

sha are like one of the unwelcome guests that come to your house once in a while.

When they are there, it really is extremely unpleasant and it takes a while to recover from it. When you realise they aren't coming back for a while, yuo can clean the place properly.

So the answer is no. Don't care about the derbies, we have bigger fish to fry.

I agree with this completely. Well put, sir.

I don't really care that much, but I think it is 'healthy' to have a bit of local rivalry to look forward to - I can't quite believe that our nearest Premiership rival is Sheffield United.

On balance I just think it is better to have a derby match or two to look forward to and have a bit of banter about.
