Exclusive: Make it Massa! Villa want new boss Lambert to complete McLeish's deal for France teen

Big Eck teed up £2million move for impressive Nancy left-back Massadio Haidara – he's the lad the Scot wanted to fill Stephen Warnock's boots

Aston Villa officials are trying to persuade new boss Paul Lambert to approve a deal for Massadio Haidara.

Lambert’s predecessor Alex McLeish teed up a £2million transfer for AS Nancy left-back Haidara,19, before being axed.

MirrorSport can reveal Villa watched Haidara 10 times last season and even chief executive Paul Faulkner personally went to see him play.

Villa were very impressed by the French U-20 youngster who was identified as Stephen Warnock’s eventual successor at left-back.

Warnock, 30, has just 12 months left on his contract after a disappointing campaign. Now Villa hope to convince Lambert to sanction Haidara’s signing as he shakes up the club’s squad.

Lambert also aims to offload right-back Alan Hutton and bring in Kyle Naughton.

He had identified Denmark’s international left-back Simon Poulsen,27, of AZ Alkmaar as Warnock’s replacement but may now go for Haidara.

McLeish signed Enda Stevens to be Warnocks 'eventual replacement' surely? Not seen Haidara play but I kind of hope its BS just because that those circumstances [the board scouting players] are hopefully bullshit lol (im sure they are).

That said its nice to be linked with a young foreign player for once, anybody seen him play?

eh? what an odd article.suggesting we tell lambert to sign this guy faulkner likes?

Don't think it's saying that exactly. It's saying our scouts watched this guy 10 times last season so obviously rated him highly and that Faulkner went to watch him too. Sounds like we had preliminary discussions with the player and we are now finding out if Lambert wants the player or not by filling him in on what we know of the lad.

Saw Enda Steven's play a few times in the reserves last season and I wouldn't be shocked if he fails to make a breakthrough into first team, didn't leave much of an impression on me. This guy could be a better option.

paul faulkner head scout now?

Nowhere does it say that. If this article is true... *insert huge doubt here* and we scouted him ten times and have a deal in place for £2mil then PF would have been over there to have some discussions with Nancy Board about the aforementioned £2mil deal

Footballers are like women - more exciting when they're 19 and this is the first time you've met them.

What's not to like?
