MMFy
Honestly though: Given Collins - Cuellar - Baker Albrighton - Herd - Petrov - Gardner - Ireland Keane Bent I honestly don't see it worth us playing four defenders when they are all so unbelievably shit. Now is time to pack out the midfield and stop teams putting us on the back foot. Petrov and Herd can cover the defence when required but with a busy midfield we should be able to apply the pressure we are missing. No chance this will happen though. samclarke2010
i know keane has played reasonably well since hes been here but really i dont think id play him, hes been played just off the striker which i really think is irelands (who was starting to find form there) only position Given Hutton--Collins--Clark--Warnock -----Petrov----Gardener-------- ------------Ireland---------- Nzogbia (Floating Role)----- -------Bent---------Gabi---- this might not work every game because we'd be overrun in midfield but i think today it would be a good setup to show we are a good attacking team if the players are used correctly. Pilchard
Very weak midfield - but one 100% from the Villa academy.
nobler
Gabby is captain according to Matt Kendrick.
jamesbuchanan
Can't decide if I'm worried or excited by that CM pairing... Gabby captain, nice.
Mantis
The midfield is interesting, Bent and Keane up front is fine, but why the **** has he put Warnock back in and why has Collins kept his place? **** tool.
Milton_Monkfish
Love the line up. Come on Villa. Bit gutted Ireland is still benched but at least Bannan is playing instead.
dudevillaisnice
edit : Warnock is back meh.
jackbauer24
I just don't understand; you lose your most experienced midfielder so instead off trying best to replace him with a youngster you decide the whole midfield should be as inexperienced as possible?! It could be a master stroke (there's always a first time!) but that seems like shocking decision to take out both Ireland and N'Zogbia and makes you wonder whether this is a tactical decision or a personal one. Surely a loss today will result in huge pressure on McLeish.
Demitri_C
gonna get absolutely murdered in midfield wheres ireland, n zog and petrov?
Milton_Monkfish
Surely a loss today will result in huge pressure on McLeish. Agreed. It's all starting to catch up with him now and I think he can no longer hide behind the financial restraints and the fact that he's new. The way he behaved in his interview after the Man Shitty defeat showed the cracks are starting to appear.
KSV
He seems happy to drop the attackers quite easily yet the defence are untouchable. Drop warnock completely and Collins should be benches.
dudevillaisnice
Petrov is injured I think N'Zog - well he bought him and has dropped him time and time again.. it's obvious N'Zog needs a manager like Martinez to get the best out of him and not 1960 style football McLeish. Ireland? - your guess is as good as mine.
Mantis
He just won't learn. He bemoans the stupid defensive mistakes yet plays defenders in Collins and Warnock who are constantly behind these mistakes.
AndyM3000
If it means McLeish was going to be sacked I would be happy to see us lose this game. However he wont be sacked, and we will probably lose anyway.
Dodgyknees
One positive is there will be more movement from midfield which is something Keane has been crying for. Still, agree with jackbauer.
OutByEaster? Posted February 25, 2012 Moderator Share Posted February 25, 2012 It's a very attacking line up - I don't think we'll keep a clean sheet, but I think those that have made the trip might be in for a treat today.
dudevillaisnice
This would've been a perfect game for Lichaj to get game time.. I don't think he is as bad as people make out imo.
OutByEaster? Posted February 25, 2012 Moderator Share Posted February 25, 2012 It looks like a sort of 4-1-2-3? Two wingers, two strikers, two attacking midfielders - McLeish appears to have gone completely Ardiles.
