Surely having Gil in a free role in front of the midfield would increase creativity. Also using Weimann as a striker rather than a winger should bring out the best in him??

I watch him closely every game and firmly believe he is our best player easily. the problem is half the time no one gives him the ball. he needs to be our pin point man beween midfield and strikers. when he gets the ball he knows where every player around him is and 9 / 10 he picks the right pass looking at the way weimann plays in the holes and making runs i really think those 2 and n'zog if he ever really hits form for us could be the key. the second goal today watch when he holds the ball just until the time is right. absolute quality player.

Lack of quality?? or lack of use of the quality we have available ireland, nzog, gabi, bent all used incorrectly 90% of the season.... poor managment. mcleish in the last few games has thrown away his dignity as a manager and succumbed to all the stero types of his managerial style. disgraceful team selections and bad relationships with players are all coming to show his poor skills. i used to blame the players but seriously he's becoming a servere problem. to be fair today he set up in a decent manor; if you ask me ireland and nzogbia need to be utilised a lot more and create an understanding of eachother which could unlock the key to our success if we can get those 2 and gabi and bent firing. i posed this on approx page 54 of this thread and 1 by 1 he has proved so many of my arguments wrong. "Ive been following this thread now for a good 2 months so i cant see how anyone will agree with this post looking at the stick mcleish has got over his time in charge Mcleish was doomed from the start as villa manager unless he won all of our first 7 games of the season which everyone deemed as "easy" fixtures. Apart from now in the premier league there is 6ish good teams and then the rest are fighting between themselves. Us bieng one of these average teams. As soon as mcleish had played a few games everyone stuck with the stereotype of him bieng a defensive minded manager. I can see that he is focused on building a solid defence but i cannot see how people call him defensive. picking nzog gabi bent and ireland in my eyes is no way defensive, and people can say its his tactics but he is not controlling these players whilst on the pitch and they are all attack minded so he cannot surely make them be defensive themselves. Then when they perform badly going forward the hotle end calls for "super marc albrighton" who if you ask me has 1 good game in 10, and his crossing of the ball is mediocre. I just think that no other manager would have done any better than mcleish, people say they dont want him cause he got relegated, but they want martinez? the man who is on the way to getting wigan relegated? Our real problem is the fact that instead of buying 4 - 5 quality 10 - 20m pound players we are now stuck with many average unused players who we have now got to get rid of. There is no way people can question randys commitment to this club, he just backed the wrong man. Not saying I am a huge mcleish fan but there is not anyone who would have done much better with the side we have, we just have to hope that in the coming seaons we can rebuild again. anybody agree? Randy, you dont know much about "soccer" clearly but listen to the bread and butter of the club (the supporters) and please remove this man from the club.

if your not trying to be negative then you just havent got a clue mr mcleish. clark will be a quality cb, however in midfield he is too slow to distribute and gets forced to pass backwards ireland is an attcking midfielder who players just off the striker(s) that is his only position, the only position where he can show his full potential. nzogbia stated at the start of the season he wanted to play on the right. ok its not his right to pick and choose, but thats where he played for wigan and look at how good he was there. he needs to be given a free role up top to roam. when he picks the ball up on the left he dosent seem to know what to do with it, however down the right he feints the cut ins , shows skill and looks 100% more confident. bent isnt very good if he gets isolated and has no creativity around him. so no you might not be trying to be negative but these players need to be used right, and your just not doing it, if you cant see this then you are most certainly not a premier league standard of manager. so.... Given Lihaj--Cuellar/Dunne----Clark----Warnock ----------Petrov------Gardener------------ -----------------Ireland------------------- Nzogbia(Free Roam)-------------------- -----Bent----------Gabi-------------- Obviosuly Bent is now injured but why has this team not been played...... Let Gabi drift wide if thats what he wants, let ireland link up with gabi and nzogbia in the final third to create chances for bent. Incorrect use of players. And emily heskey if he has to be used is a centre forward, most certainly not a left winger and even more so a left midfielder. Thoughts????

tactically disgraceful give the job to k'mac at lease he probably knows : ireland is an attacking midfielder with great potential playing off the stiker nzogbia needs a bit more freedom and deffinatly shouldnt be on the bench as he was starting to pick up his game heskey if he really has to be used is most certainly not a winger, although he does have blistering pace and is extremely skillful not looking forward to blackburn at all.

i know keane has played reasonably well since hes been here but really i dont think id play him, hes been played just off the striker which i really think is irelands (who was starting to find form there) only position Given Hutton--Collins--Clark--Warnock -----Petrov----Gardener-------- ------------Ireland---------- Nzogbia (Floating Role)----- -------Bent---------Gabi---- this might not work every game because we'd be overrun in midfield but i think today it would be a good setup to show we are a good attacking team if the players are used correctly.

not defending the manager just saying they were extremely poor in both halves tonight, second half against us they were decent. also this is the same martin oneil that played the exact same tactic against man city as we did and snuck a winner at the end

im sure most of you who post on here have played some sort of competative football over the years? did you blame your manager for everything that went wrong? different levels of the game yes....but its not the managers fault.

people who say he's doing a bad job are deffinatly wrong. watch all our goals conceded this season and look how many of them are stupid defensive errors, he must be ripping his hair out. and for those of you who say you have given him a chance think about this; last season i heard "houlliers claret and blue army" coming from the holte end on multiple occasions. this season i have not heard mcleish's name sung once - because he came from the blues. the exact reason why people dont like him and why people listen to silly things that blues fans say, like: "hes negative" and "he sits back when hes in the lead" and the exact reason why when we win its the players who've done well and when we lose its all the managers fault. why cant any of you just realise hes here and support the team properly rather than making them scared and nervous to touch the ball at home cause they know that the fans are just waiting for a reason to whinge and cry about the managers poor skills. as for his premier league record, have you seen the squad he had to play with over his time?? he tried to make signings such as hleb and bentley, ok only on loan but they didnt work out and he was left with an extremely mediocre squad.

first half was bad. however at half time mcleish addressed the situation by obvsiouly giving them a bollocking, and he then bought on bannan for clark. we just need to sort out this poor first half business. also id love to see a video of all our conceded goals this season.. too many silly mistakes.

i enjoy the fact people are starting to come around to the fact that the players have a lot of blame too.

I seriously cant believe on the previous page to this someone has actually written they will blame mcleish for the 2 penalties cause he told them to get stuck in at half time. ha, so he told dunne to take out a player who had over hit the ball and that was going to our keeper, and told bent to make silly challanges in silly positions. unreal.
