maqroll
Very decent Villa player, and a total shame what happened to him. Discuss.

Zatman
not best video bit what an amazing bit of technique and goal. If Rooney or Gerrard scored it be still being replayed on Sky
AndyBM
these things do happen, ive just seen the images of what happened, nasty was a good player for that short period of time, shame really
Hanky
Would have scored a lot that year for us. That injury was such a shame.

AVFC-Prideofbrum
JWow, obviously slightly before my time, I do remember that goal though and heard he was meant to good. I had never before this moment actually looked at anything like videos the Gareth shown or even wiki'd him (to look at stats) he seems like he was actual class and those goals he scores, bloody hell. What a shame.
sir_gary_cahill
he looks wonderful in that video, i didn't realise that he was that good, i remember his debut goal against chelsea, it was sublime, it was a shame that his career was curtailed by injury so soon after joining us
Zatman
I remember he got two goals in playoffs to knock Ireland out of France 98 but surprisingly his international record is not as good as his club. According to Wiki Ronaldo and van Nistelrooy have said he was among best partners they had in football. Damn you Richard Wright
GarethRDR
The last time I ever thought we could actually win the league was when we signed him.

lapal_fan
Do you reckon with that kind of break now, he would have been able to recover and play on, a bit like Cisse or Bouma? Real shame as others have said. He was 31 when we signed him wasn't he?
AndyBM
/\ was just about to say that, he was in his 30s in still in form, a bit like sherringham and phillips, although i thought he was 33 when we signed him, my bad
lapal_fan
just wiki'd him, you're right Andy, he was 33, bloody hell! probably no point him trying to come back from a leg break like that with 1 or 2 years left in his professional career. Shame however.
Stevo985 Posted December 26, 2011 VT Supporter Share Posted December 26, 2011 Yeh I think it was his age rather than his injury, if that makes sense. If he'd had that leg break but was 10 years younger I think he'd have come back. But he was too old to make the full recovery and get back playing. VillaChris
Very intelligent player and a good pick up at the time as he'd set up a lot of RVN's goals at PSV. More of a withdrawn forward who could create and score, the sort we've been missing for years tbh upfront.
