I drove through once (slight detour, curiosity value).

Pretty much a run down, dilapidated shit hole.

That was in '97 though. Maybe it's had a lick of paint since.

Atlantic City is (was) OK. Comparing it to Vegas etc should not be done, nor should you plan to spend a whole holiday there, but it certainly should be a place you should drop into if you are in the locality if only to say "I have been there".

Knocked the all inclusive on the head.

Got a killer deal on 4 nights at the hard rock, so bringing the missus (gulp) out to Vegas for her first time, my college roommate and his wife live in north Vegas so it will not be as wild as on my own, but should still be fun.

And this means I can go back on my own in the summer.

Good decision ;) When will you be going? Have you stayed in the Hard Rock before?

I'm 90% certain that I'll be going again this year (possibly June). I hope to go for longer this time though and fly direct. If it's half as good as last time then it'll still be **** awesome!

Thought the last trip was my last vegas trip, times a good healer and considering a week at the monte carlo. I have to say the strip for me has now reached saturation point it is far too full and cluster **** areas from casino royale up to mgm make it difficult to do anything other than shuffle. This is a pain. But the memory is fading and I think I need a return.

Some highlights from the last place I recommend.

Bars. Stage door, its a great bar, sports on tv, cheap beers, a fantastic place to pass time. Opposite ballys main entrance. Double down, still a great bar if you like a bar that has quality punk music on the jukebox, cheap drinks and zero frills its near the hardrock. Bar 702, great bar, cheap, a locals place but they welcomed us. Its down from the fashion show mall. Park on fremont, pricey but nice, its just a good relaxing bar down at fremont east. Similarly the griffin, sat at the bar talked to the staff, good drinks. Hogs and heifers on 3rd, its really the best bar I have ever been in. I love country and southern rock and thats what they play, it can be an intimidating place but go there, its worth it, walk in, dont pause and pitch up at the bar. A vegas must do.

I still prefer Fremont to the Strip  ... but I'm a bit of a pleb at heart

might depend on the time of year you go ? when I went with the kids for Christmas the Strip was fairly decent busy but not BUSY  ..when i went with mates in August it was rammed

(of course I was out at slightly different times of day on the 2 trips :) )

trying to get another trip in though  ... have a few of the old footie team approaching 50 over the next year or so so hoping to convince them they really really want to go to Vegas

I'm actually hoping there might be a decent Boxing match on that gives me an excuse to go for a weekend .. while MrsH keep scanning the web waiting for "Attraction" to have a show there so she has an excuse to go  ...  it has that sort of pull to it doesn't it  .. once you go you always want to go back

London is worse IMO. There's a lot of people walking the strip at peak times but it really isn't that bad.

The length of the strip its fine but the construction has caused so many bottlenecks, MGM Grand, Monte Carlo, Bills, the reduction of the walkway between The Flamingo and Casino Royale. Not forgetting "mosiers" between PH and Ballys, it can be a little frustrating, that said I will be back.

Got back from 4 days at the hard rock late friday, slept till 1:30pm both sat and sun, me and the missus went. great time as per usual, despite being so bloody expensive! HArd rock was cool, nice room, good pools, got to see Elton John as well, so that was quality. got to love vegas!

There is a bar opposite hard rock, behind and a little to the left of kiss mini golf that references shrewsbury town on its window, keep meaning to go in there but always head over to the double down.
