What Album Are You Listening To Right Now?

Need a recommendation, I'm in a vinyl club, 7 of us take it in turns to pick an album and everyone buys it, so far we've had -

Drenge - undertow

Radiohead - ok computer

Dj shadow - endtroducing

I'm up next, was thinking nas illmatic but gone off that now, now thinking the national, not sure which album though, personally I prefer high violet

That's why I was listening to young fathers, didn't realise they won the mercury prize though, trying to find something good but a bit different at the same time

If you're going hiphop I'd go for:

Ugly duckling - journey to anywhere

Wu tang clan - 36 chambers

Raekwon - only built 4 Cuban linx

Rock I'd probably go

Qotsa - rated R

Stone temple pilots - core

Manic Street preachers - generation terrorists

Though that is an everlasting list. Maybe something classic like Marvin gaye, zepplin. Or some dub classics like king tubby or Lee scratch Perry.

Now I'm rambling.

I looked at Marvin Gaye tbf

Didn't want what's going on though

Either of the first two Roots Manuva albums man, hip hop, different, leads to all sorts of alternatives.

Alternatively, maybe a reggae album? Peter Tosh, John Holt, anything Trojan?

BTW, what's a vinyl club? Sounds good, tell me more

King Tubby and LSP, great shouts. In one of my drawers at work in have only a spare mug, some pepper and 3 LSP albums. Emergency kit innit.

Roots manuva is a great choice as one of Britain's foremost innovators for UK hiphop. The only other pioneer would probably be Blade but to be honest his delayed effort as part of Mark B & Blade...I've never gotten into it.

Revolver or abbey road by villatalk's favourite divisive band?

they were a couple of us looking to join one of these £20 a month online clubs where they send you a random vinyl out each month and they have a forum etc to chat about it, but looking at the previous releases it was all over the shop and in the majority properly obscure, so instead my mate got 7 of us together, i didnt even know 3 of them, and we do £20 a month each taking it in turns to pick, to me it works better than the proper clubs because ive found myself smashing spotify over the last 3/4 months to try and find a record, trying to find my pick has been more fun than listening to other peoples picks

like i said i want something different but id be confident that its more a case of trying to pick something i listen to and like which i know they dont, which is why i was angling towards the national

im also tempted to go with of monsters and men's new album, was really enjoying that earlier

and i dont like the idea of going for the beatles because it'll be a remaster and i try and avoid them unless theyve added something extra (for example i picked up the rifles no love lost 10 year remaster last week, it had a download code for a special release with about 30 songs on it, b sides and demos etc)

Personally I'd be less chuffed with something I already had on CD than a decently remastered LP that was new to me.

You're cutting off a lot of interesting titles that have been resurrected because they're good.

i dunno, personally if someone one month picks a remastered version of sgt pepper id be disappointed, its good for the collection but i know that album like the back of my hand

one of the lads doing it is a massive bob dylan fan so theres potential he could pick out a random seldom heard of dylan album, that woudlnt really bother me if it was remastered, but it would probably bother him

i also think if you cant buy the original in a decent condition for a decent price then id consider it, been looking at stevie wonder for example, a lot of his stuff is like rocking horse shit

i dont think the beatles fall in to that category, they seem easy enough to get hold of without the remasters

A remaster or repress needn't be an album everyone has, and you need 7 decent copies of each title for under £20.

I've got

on the way on LP.

It's the only way I can get it.

This is happening a lot recently, looking at the pile in front of me: Oddisee, JBs, Dedalus, Nucleus, Clams Casino, Soundcarriers... Vinyl only.

I prefer CD, if they're mastered properly

i think robert fripp is a bit of a genius on the guitar, read somewhere that ritchie blackmore who is a very talented guitarist was pissed off with fripp because he was the only guitarist back in the day whos guitar work on certain songs ritchie could not work out.

Black Sabbath, Paranoid. as relevant today as it was on its release, war is still going on, we are still destroying the planet, still discovering the wonders of space travel, iron man became a film, drugs are still rife and you are now finding rats in pre packed salad's.
