I'm pleased with the ambition shown by the owner, and I hope it continues long in to the future. I have already glanced at a couple of media outlets about the deal, many stating that it is a sign of desperation and panic by Randy.

Had he gone to Man City would they be saying the same thing?

Dammed if we do, dammed if we don't.

End of the day, we've signed a PROVEN Premiership goalscorer. Absolutely brilliant and I couldn't give a flying feck what the media think about it.

I'm a bit fed up with the media MON lovefest. Randy couldn't trust him with any more transfer money with so much in wages sitting on the bench and some utter tripe signed with Randy's good money. I wish the press would get real and stop talking bollocks. This is nothing more than Randy supporting the Manager that he appointed. Two good draws in our last three games might be good evidence that we are turning things around, regardless of any new signings, Walker apart.

The deeper story is though - that MON should have sat tight - lerner would have given him the cash - if he had shited the benchwarmers

I don,t believe that to be true.I don't believe Lerner intended to give him the cash....He had the cash and Lerner was dubious about what he saw for it.

Thing that annoys me most is when we sell our big players we're a selling club but when we buy big players it's a panic buy

.....its called envy...and its too pathetic for words.

The arrival of a left-back would complete his January business but, contrary to reports Villa are not interested in Wigan full back Maynor Figueroa and maintain there has been no approach from Liverpool after a temporary move for Stephen Warnock.

Interesting, I rate him but at 28/29 maybe he's too 'short term'

Leighton Baines anyone ?

:D

Not likely I know

But would you trust MON with more funds? Links to McGeady and Keane didnt excite me...Yet Houllier with his 1st 2 real signings of Makoun and Bent, seem somewhat far better in comparison.

I got the feeling that MON had reached a ceiling with us and was going around in circles...We needed a new guy to come in,that has the ability to work with and attract star/great players..

Im not taking anything away from MON..He is the best manager around for mediocre,to bottom half clubs..West Ham? No Problem, with MON they will be challenging the Europa places..

I think Houllier is a class up from MON and Lerner is a very Shrewd business man.

Was a nice tweet by one of the Guardian journalists today along the lines of - I wonder how Martin O'Neill feels seeing RL give Houllier £24m to spend on a new striker while he's negotiating with a pair of porn mongers to try and keep West Ham up.

I may have used some artistic license here but that was the general sentiment. Fair enough I know we're not out of the shit either by a long run....

I agree. It just shows you how bullheaded Martin O'Neill is. No Manager should ever be bigger than the club and whilst it's taken Randy four years to run the club properly, with a clear plan for youth development and scouting etc, it is now taking shape. Our current position is a temporary blip. I am looking forward to the rest of the season now instead of shitting myself.

Lol, well Aly Cissokho is probrably the best LB in the world atm and is Makoun's best mate..If Lerner is in a spending mood..

I really could'nt care less what the majority (not all) of the media think about this deal...........used to it by now. Lets face it, we ain't from Manchester, London or Merseyside so we ain't supposed to do anything but make the numbers up or provide cannon fodder for the corporate darlings!

Stuff 'em and get the guy signed. We're Aston Villa..........and we're on the way up!!!

David Bentley and Robbie Keane certainly would have been purchased at inflated prices had MON still been here this month. I'd much rather have Albrighton, Makoun and Bent.

MON either signed players that were on their last "payday", workhorses or players that hadn't quite done it somewhere else. He wasn't capable of buying that Darren Bent type striker, he didn't want to. Darren doesn't run round like a headless chicken running after ball after ball. He's a goalscorer, that's it, end of. Not a MON type signing at all.

Very exciting times.

Absolutely delighted at this signing just hope the manager has what it takes to mould these new signings into a winning team.

At the end of the day it does matter whether we buys players for 18mil or 18p its the managers tactics thats going to determine our future. But this is a great sign of intent and has brought me a great deal more optimism.

Thanks Randy for digging deep

Though I agree that we'll need to make sure we utilise him correctly; he is a great goal poacher and has consistently shown that he can get into good goal-scoring positions.

The amount of times we've hit the post, crossbar or scuffed shots infront of goal this season is ridiculous. We're easily capable of creating 5 or 6 good chances a game, if Bent can finish 1/3 of the chances he gets we'll be laughing!

(Providing we play him upfront :winkold:)

I'm really looking forward to the next few days of news and I'm looking forward to the game this weekend!!!

As if we could see a side with Walker, Makoun & Bent all in Villa shirts!

(I know that Walker has already played for us.. but I still find it exciting watching him on the wing with Super Marc).

Maybe we'll pick up a foreign leftback?

A "budget" £6m or £7m purchase?
