The_Rev Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 You know that it's boring when the commentators feel compelled to bring up that Aston Villa and Chelsea have been in the PL since the beginning of football in 1992. But football was invented in 1992 by Richard Keys and Rupert Murdoch!
dappadan Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 absolutely chuffed with that first half performance, spot on tactics and we probably should have nicked one
MrWeedMcGrass Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Created some good chances but lost control later in the game. Chelsea haven't looked like world beaters themselves though.
Chindie Posted October 16, 2010 VT Supporter Posted October 16, 2010 Interesting half. We've had the better chances and should have the lead. Chelsea look like they've got an arseload more in the tank but don't seem bothered to use it. Kakuta remains unbroken, for shame.
jonno_2004 Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Christ if I'd wanted to watch something that boring I'd have tuned into Serie B!
PompeyVillan Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 I think we've done well. Chelsea are there for the taking. Don't get me wrong, they are still very strong, but they look as if they are missing their key players badly. We've blatantly had the better of the chances and look the better team. I must say, I'm impressed with our ability to pass the ball at times, although we could still be better at retaining it.
TheAuthority Posted October 16, 2010 VT Supporter Posted October 16, 2010 Aston Villa's colours are "Maroon and White" according to Fox Soccer Channel. If you think that's bad they had Marlon Harewood down as starting at number 9!!
The_Rev Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Am I right in thinking that Houllier has used more players (24) in his first three and a half games than O'Neill did in all of last season?
EssexVilla Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 I'd take this if I was given it before the match. My main complaint lies at Carew as he can't seem to hold the ball up. Any ball played forward comes straight back and against Chelsea you would expect to be punished eventually. Give Carew a chance for the 1st 10 minutes of the second half and if nothing changes bring Delfouneso on.
C4rvillan Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 We are playing this game just right IMO. We are closing down the spaces and making it difficult for them yet are passing the ball quite well in the attacking third with the forward 4 of Ireland, Carew, Young and Downing linking well. We need to take our chances though.
MrWeedMcGrass Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 We look good in defence , surprisingly given the personnel. It is the midfield where we are lacking grip. Chelsea had way too much possession. Short passing has been much , much better than what I have seen from this team in the past.
andym Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 need to hold it a bit better around their box, some nice build up but we keep losing it in the final third. could do with nrc getting a bit more involved, he is quiet and chelsea have a bit too much room at times. same for carew, he looks off the pace
AVFC-Prideofbrum Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 So, so, so fustrating. We did well and those early chances could be so costly. No real bad performances, best player is Downing at the moment.
rhyscartwright_avfc Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Friedel had one thing to do all half, a simple long range effort from Essien. We should be in the lead, Ireland's guilt edged chance and Carew was unlucky a couple of minutes later. Apart from that though, a boring half. This is there for the taking. We need to work on corners in training though, rarely get past the first man.
leviramsey Posted October 16, 2010 VT Supporter Posted October 16, 2010 What a miss Ireland :x The way our luck is playing out, if that was against us you can bet our defenders and keepers would have run in to knock it into our own goal.
TheAuthority Posted October 16, 2010 VT Supporter Posted October 16, 2010 Am I right in thinking that Houllier has used more players (24) in his first three and a half games than O'Neill did in all of last season? He's certainly used more subs than MON did in four seasons!
JulieB Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Should be 1 or 2 -0 up! Downing has been excellent again, worked his socks off. IHO he's really starting to look worth his price tag.
Chindie Posted October 16, 2010 VT Supporter Posted October 16, 2010 Worth saying that Downing and Petrov have both been fantastic. And Irelands shown glimpses of what he might do when on top form, he's clearly still got the quality and vision. Just need to pick him up more. Shame Carew isn't looking like he's having one of his quality games.
