I fancied Holland, Spain and England from the start.

Now i fancy Holland or Spain. I think Holland will beat Uruguay by a couple and Spain will beat Germany. I cant see the Germans taking the piss out Spain the way they did us and Argentina. Lets face it, Argentina and England were both very poor in midfield and defensively against them. Spain have a much better midfield than either of those teams and I fancy them to open up the German defense and create the chances that Villa and co should put away.

Wouldn't like to choose a winner in a Spain Holland final.

Methodology: 16 points awarded to champion, 8 to finalist, 4 to semifinalist, 2 to quarterfinalist, 1 to eighth-finalist... points are summed and divided by the number of countries from that confederation to appear.

2010

CONMEBOL: 5, UEFA: 13, CAF: 6, AFC: 4, OFC: 1, CONCACAF: 3

UEFA: Netherlands (8+), Spain (8+), Germany (4), England (1), Portugal (1), Slovakia (1), Netherlands/Spain (8) = 31/13 = 2.38

CONMEBOL: Uruguay (4), Argentina (2), Brazil (2), Chile (1), Paraguay (1) = 10/5 = 2.00

CONCACAF: Mexico (1), USA (1) = 2/3 = 0.67

AFC: Japan (1), South Korea (1) = 2/4 = 0.50

CAF: Ghana (2) = 2/6 = 0.33

OFC: zero

So this one will slot in between 1990 and 1998 on the list of most-successful recent World Cups for Europe:

2006 - 2.85

1990 - 2.42

2010 - 2.38

1998 - 2.26

1994 - 2.07

2002 - 1.40

A team from Europe has never won the tourney outside of Europe.

Worth remembering.

While this is true, I feel it is largely irrelevant given that we're in the relative unknown of Africa.

UEFA representatives didn't do exceptionally well in 2002 either (Korea & Japan being about as unknown in the context of international football venues).

Perhaps this can be amended to "UEFA doesn't do that well, relatively speaking, when the World Cup is played more than a couple of hours off of GMT."

What are spains odds?

Wonder what they would be to win semi and final and not concede a goal?

If I had this bet and match went to extra time today, can i still collect?

Well bets are usually for 90 mins only.

I remember last week you posting that Spain would win their semi and their final 1-0.

Please advise next weeks winning lottery numbers. :D
