anyone ever joined a vinyl club?

my mates trying to get me and a couple of others to sign up to one, £20 a month, they send you a limited edition print pf their record of the month (which they select for you) and a couple of other bits and pieces

i cant work out if the limited edition print exclusive to their members is because its a print they do themselves (not sure if they're even allowed to do that) which would mean that if it was garbage i'd not be able to do anything with it

i've found another one that does 2 x 7" a month but that seems a bit pointless

i already buy 1 album a month but they tend to be very safe choices

save yourself £15 a month with the following game:

decide before you enter the second hand record store the location you are going to buy from - and stick to it

today Matthew! I will be buying a record from the rear left hand corner of the store

15 minutes and £4.99 later, welcome to Balkan Death Metal

(which they select for you)

Do you want to listen to them, or wrap them in cotton wool and hope they become worth something?

If you haven't got a store nearby? You have YouTube, Allmusic, Bandcamp, Mixcloud, Pandora, Spotify, Pitchfork and all the specialist blogs and boards.

Then the onlines like Norman, Hurricane, Juno, Boomkat, Presto, MDT... Even Amazon's 'other customers that bought...' bit is quite cool and you don't have to buy from them.

Music's subjective. Why give your money to some some hipster cock end, who has the gall to think their opinion of what is good music has greater credence than yours?

Either that, or just palming you off with something they got on the cheap.
