Stevo985 Posted July 16, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted July 16, 2012 Clive Owen (as I think I said a couple of pages ago) is one of th emost overachieving actors in Hollywood. He's awful. IF they want Bond to speak in one continuous monotone showing zero emotion of any sort, then he's perfect.
kurtsimonw
Fair enough, each to their own. That's what I feel about Gosling personally and some on here love him which I find baffling. I would actually prefer to watch Seagal, honestly.

kurtsimonw
I don't think it was bad either, but it wasn't a memorable film by any stretch. I think sometimes it doesn't help when following on from a really great movie like Casino Royale, inflated expectation.
Designer1 Posted July 16, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted July 16, 2012 Watched Carnage last night. Not Polanski's best work (by a long chalk) but the four leads made it an enjoyable watch. Christoph Waltz in particular stood out win his beautifully cynical and funny role.
AVFCDAN
Watched Ted last night. If you enjoy family guy then you'll like this film, thought it was a decent effort from macfarlane although he still has some learning to do as a director. I think he was definitely helped in this film by having the experience of Marky Mark and likability of Mila Kunis. There's one joke which I won't spoil where I literally spat my drink out, it's the one involving flash Gordon for anyone else who has seen it I'm sure you will know what I mean. Ginko
I assume you're not from these shores or you watched it illegally then since it's not out until August in the UK I think. 'fess up!
AVFCDAN
I'm from brum! But yeah it was a copy I watched, wouldn't normally bother with early copies but this one is very good for anyone that has the means of acquiring it, looked a bit like a VHS actually. It seriously is one of the worst performances I've ever seen, made worse by all the great reviews it had. Acting tips from me or not, you could've played the lead in that movie and done no worse. Assuming you can show no emotion and say 1 or 2 words every now and then.

Without being rude, think you've missed the point of the whole awesome performance from Gosling in Drive tbh. Currently one of the best actors working today, good in everything he does. I was talking about Drive as I don't recall anything else he's in that I've seen. Just because I disagree with you, and others, doesn't mean I've 'missed the point'. Movie is okay, he's awful. Stevo985 Posted July 17, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted July 17, 2012 I would say that I thought the point of the character in Drive was to be emotionless. He showed his emotions through his actions rather than expressions. There are plenty of movies where Gosling shows a lot of emotion. Blue Valentine, Ides of March and the Notebook to name a few
PieFacE Posted July 17, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted July 17, 2012 Gosling is absolutely fantastic in Drive. In fact, he's fantastic in every films he's in. Brilliant actor.

Blue Valentine, Ides of March and the Notebook to name a few But he did very little throughout the entire movie and was very wooden whenever on screen. As I said, Drive's the only thing I've seen him in so can't say. But in this he was really awful I thought. What can I say though, you didn't find Tony Stark funny in the Avengers. Stevo985 Posted July 17, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted July 17, 2012 Haha He's about as funny as Lee Nelson. Gosling stuff isn't a criticism by the way, we just clearly have different tastes.
