The Film Thread

I have a mate who once said that he defacto never watched any films that were released prior to The Godfather. Adamant that he’d not seen anything  before 1972 and he had no intention of ever doing so.

To which I countered “Huh, I guess that Mary Poppins was released later than I thought.”

“Well, yeah obviously I’ve watched Mary Poppins, but…”

“The cartoon one with the flying elephant with the big ears, that was an 80’s Disney film, wasn’t it?”

“Ok, I get your point, but what I’m sayi…”

“That Wizard of Oz film…”

“You’re such a clearing in the woods, Mark.”

I do like Mads Mikkelsen. This Danish film is very black, very weird and very funny.

Brilliant film. Love The Green Butchers by the same director.

Off to a 'Scream Unseen' tonight at my local Odeon (basically a horror version of Screen Unseen).

I have a pretty good record at these blind showings so hopefully this will be something decent.

Meg 2. Pretty impressive that they managed to make a over the top movie starring Jason Statham about a gigantic shark this boring. No one expects it to be a good movie, but it should be entertaining.Right?

Ditto. Saw it with my daughter on ScreenX a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed it for what it was.

Each to their own, but that is quite the ridiculous rule you've applied to yourself there.

You are missing out on so many superb films.

Appropriate I've seen this exchange then as I entertained myself yesterday evening by watching "The 39 Steps" which is nearly 90 years old and still really, really good

No you're not. A true film snob would not watch any film made since the 70s.

Christ, you're missing out on some of the greatest movies ever made.
